Yo…
Welcome to Aldershot Myspace… A place for Aldershonians or people from ‘The Shot’. If Camberley, Fleet, Farnborough and Guildford can have their own profile… it’s time to play catch up! Come on guys and gals, we'll show them Aldershot is the place to be!Where better place to start than my sexy name “Aldershotâ€, derived from ‘Alder’, meaning a wet, boggy place! I have a population of around 33,900 and I’m located 55km or 35 miles west, south west of London. Just like my dearest neighbour Farnborough, I was featured in the Doomsday book, although I came first, as I was listed in alphabetical order on page 16 ;-)My most famous landmark is The Wellington Statue, a 30ft high, 40 ton lump of bronze, in the shape of the Duke of Wellington, hidden behind a giant Tesco, Garrison Church and many thick trees. It used to live in Hyde Park Corner, London, but Queen Vic didn’t like it and shipped it in for us to gawp at… cheers Lizzy! Many famous people were born and raised within my borders, including Martin Freeman from The Office, Amelle Berrabah from The Sugababes and get this... Heather Mills McCartney, to name but a few!I have two great shopping precincts, The Wellington Centre and The Galleries. The least said about the latter, the better!I have my very own tourist centre, in the busy and bustling High Street, but unfortunately, I don’t get many tourists. Attraction ideas would be welcome, to boost my non existent visitor numbers… sorry, number.
Visit my town centre today, where you will be spoilt for choice, in deciding whether to visit the charity shops, fast food shops or the highlight of your visit, to one of my many fake tanning salons or nail bars. On returning home, your friends and family will ask, where did you get the orange tan and those massive claws, stuck on the end of your fingertips, to which you shall reply, Aldershot!
Feel free to send me your comments and suggestions! If you have any pictures you would like to share, stories to tell, news about the town, pictures of your night out in my local clubs and pubs, please contact Aldershot!
