About Me

Born in Miami, Florida in 1971 to a Cuban mother & Puerto Rican father (who I only met a few times in my childhood - last time I saw him I was 8, last time I spoke on the phone with him I was 15)...Raised in the now-trendy South Beach neighborhood of Miami Beach, Florida back when it was all elderly Jewish people...The first 45 (7" vinyl single) I ever bought was "Centerfold" by J. Geils Band in 1981, other 45's I bought shortly after were "Mickey" by Toni Basil, and "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth...The first album I bought (after the Grease soundtrack...lol) was Spring Session M by Missing Persons 1982...My first concert was Prince & the Revolution with Sheila E. opening at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida on Easter Sunday 1985 (I was 13).....My favorite music was all the early 80's New Wave, but by the time I was old enough to start going to concerts in the mid-80's, many of the those bands were broken up or on hiatus...so I ended up becoming part of the tail-end of the American Hardcore punk scene from 1986 - 1989. This old Art Deco theater (The Cameo, which was recently converted to club called crobar) started having cheap punk shows every week & I would see bands like Dead Kennedy's, TSOL, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Rollins Band, Suicidal Tendencies, Murphy's Law, Gang Green, Youth of Today, Fugazi, SNFU, UK Subs, GBH, Exploited, Descendents/All, 7 Seconds & bigger "college-rock" bands like Ramones, Fishbone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dead Milkmen, New Model Army. I used to see Ami from the reality show Miami Ink at those shows.....After the punk shows started becoming less frequent, the Cameo started having a lot of reggae shows, so I was able to see some of the best Roots Reggae acts (Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley, Steel Pulse, Third World, Alpha Blondy, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, The Wailers, Culture, Black Uhuru, Pato Banton, Inner Circle, UB40, Beres Hammond, Half Pint, Marcia Griffiths, Shinehead, Judy Mowatt, Eek-a-Mouse), before that scene was eclipsed by dancehall....Graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School (locally known as "Beach High") in 1989.....I started going to gay clubs & getting into dancing to House music, lucky that all the New York club-kids, drag queens, & other nightlife fixtures had discovered the neighborhood that I grew up in as a place to party all night...Attended NYU for a semester from January, 1992 through May, 1992...My mother passed away from cancer on November 8, 1993. Since she was the only blood-relative I was in contact with, that left me pretty much on my own (luckily I was surrounded by some of the best friends a person could hope to ask for)...Moved back to New York City in June, 1994...Returned to Miami Beach in January, 1997...Moved to San Francisco, California on New Year's Eve (December 31, 2003) & lived there until March 29, 2007...I am really going to miss the great job I had & all the great people I met, but I'M SO HAPPY to be back in New York!......I speak English, Spanish, Portugese, & Italian.
