Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting /pBack in 1981, Tony and Dave Hornbuckle formed a Mod band called The Elite. All were school friends, Tony on Bass Guitar, Dave (Rhythm Guitar), Rob Maun (Lead Guitar), and Martin Edwards on Drums where they played the local clubs/pub scenes. After a while, they had to re-arrange their set up due to Rob leaving the band. This was where Tony and Dave’s cousin Paul Reeves joined as bass guitarist. Tony changed to Rhythm Guitar, Dave (Lead Guitar), and a new drummer Richard Vaughn.
Tony also changed their name to The Odd. Tony, Dave and Paul were Mods all suited up, and Richard was a flower power phsycedelic. Obviously being the odd one out was how the name was born.
After about a year, Richard (Drums) left, and Neil Harris became a permanent member in 1983 Neil did take a break between 1987/88 where Paul Murphy took over on Drums).
In 1984, The Odd released the single “Last Time I Saw You†which was recorded and produced in Scotland. The Odd travelled up and down the country to promote the single.
To the end of that year, it became clear that keyboards were becoming more fashionable in the music scene, so they then decided to become a five piece band where Dave Karlsen joined the rank as keyboard player.
Up until the single, the majority of the writing process would be carried out by Tony, at times in collaboration with Paul. Dave Hornbuckle and Neil were starting to write one or two songs together themselves.
What was interesting about the single, is that it was for the first time (and possibly the only time) that all four lads wrote the song together, Tony (the music), Dave H, Paul and Neil (the lyrics).
At the time Dave Karlsen (Dave 2) joined The Odd, the band decided to go full time.
The writing process changed, spending more time writing lyrics and music alone. Tony would bring it into the rehearsal studio, and the band would then put their own input to create the sound that you hear today.
Dave H, Dave 2, Neil and Paul would team up to write some songs themselves, i.e. Biggest Fools, Mr Stranger, to name but a few.
Paul moved away from London, and the band decided that it was time for a new direction, image and name .
The band became Picture This, Dave Griffiths was added as the new bass player, and quickly became known as Dave 3.
When the band had to do radio, newspaper interviews, they would introduce themselves saying “Hello, I’m Dave, I’m Dave, I’m Dave, I’m Dave’s brother, and I’m Dave’s brothers mate!!!â€
Work that one out if you can!
Picture This were becoming a really tight outfit on stage, and going from strength to strength, until Dave 3 decided to part with the band.
At this point, the Pomeroy brothers joined Picture This. Lee on bass, and Steve on lead guitar taking over from Dave H so he could concentrate on lead vocals only.
Lee and Steve added another dimension to the band. In Lee’s case, (who was only aged 19 yrs) some producers working with the band, were rating him equally as good as Mark King from Level 42.
Although Tony was still writing 90% of the songs, Steve was generally doing the arrangements and productions (which is evident in the video “One Heart Breaks Twoâ€) Due for release as download soon.
This was their continued line up, until they sadly broke up in the early 90’s.
Tony and Steve continued to collaborate with writing songs until the mid nineties.
With the interest shown since our web launch, has prompted Tony, Dave and the guys to produce an album and single release (and maybe more to come!!)
