PILAR MONTENEGROWhen Mexican singer Pilar Montenegro joined up with producer Rudy Perez in 2001 for her second solo album, “Desahogo,†she began a new stage in her career, earning awards for high sales in the United States and Mexico and bringing her a new wave of international fame. The song, “Quitame ese hombre,†catapulted her to the top position on Billboards charts where it remained for 13 weeks.Montenegro acquired her passport to international fame during her seven years as a member of the popular music group Garibaldi. From there she ventured into acting in telenovelas such as “Volver a empezar†alongside Yuri and Chayanne, “Marisol,†and “Gotita de Amor,†as well as a theatrical production of “Mulan†based on the Disney movie of the same name.In 2003, People en Español named her one of the most beautiful Latinas in the world and both Forbes and Cristina magazines chose her as one of the most important artists of the moment. That same year, Montenegro received three Billboard awards, three Premio Lo Nuestro awards, Premio Ritmo Latino awards and others.Montenegro, who sang the theme song for the telenovela “Prisionera†and the Hollywood movie, “Shall We Dance?†starring Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, she has recorded five solo albums.On her most recent album, “Pilar Montenegro & Co. South Beach,†the singer ventured into reggaeton with Adrian Posse, who first collaborated with her successfully on the album Euroreggateon.†Some of the most celebrated names in the genre, including Don Omar, Voltio, and Maestro, joined her for the album’s production.
