STORY:
Fanatical birdwatchers have descended upon a small town in the Arkansas bayou, searching for concrete proof of the recently-spotted Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, previously thought to be extinct. Rabid environmentalists, opportunistic small-town entrepreneurs, skeptics and disgruntled loggers and hunters vie for prominence in the ensuing chaos. Enter amateur birder and philosopher Johnny Neander, who has convinced his taciturn sidekick that they will be the ones to find it. Yet a worrying past and a drifting spirit suggest that this search may be for something much more troubling.
Exploring the twilight of uncertainty between narrative and documentary styles, all truth becomes subjective in this existential tragicomedy about hope, perception, and a very strange bird.
