About Me

Born from unrelenting passion and a wealth of experience, MOTHERS ANTHEM crashes through barriers and brings new life to the rock scene with songs that lift, instruct and connect with those seeking to find music with meaning. When created, the band had one goal in mind, to deliver each song as a passionate message.
The music has a purpose. The purpose is to inspire.
Often it has been said that faith must begin by the acknowledgment of our own weakness and inability. Through experience we have learned that faith in one's own self and in one's own ability is a valuable asset. There is no question that through the power of music, this message can be taught, and MOTHERS ANTHEM accomplishes this goal with their powerhouse rock and roll philosophy.
The darker side of life’s consequences is what propels the MOTHERS ANTHEM experience. Musically the path is riddled with torment, heartache, turmoil and conflict. However, the belief is that confrontation and release through song allows the band and the listener to realize the road is one that is universal and facing the dark allows one to find hopeful light. MOTHERS ANTHEM proves that the final destination is worth the journey.
While longtime and new fans of each member are emotionally connecting with the band’s recently recorded debut material, ultimately, it's MOTHERS ANTHEM's live show that generates the most enthusiastic reviews. The focused vision and raw, overwhelming energy of their stage presence is brought to the stage every time no matter the circumstance. Their devout belief that every show is a new chance to share their message enables them to give the audience a performance to remember and carry with them long afterwards.
Life affirming, lesson teaching, emotionally lifting, MOTHERS ANTHEM brings a message to the masses; that music is at its most powerful when it has purpose…

Kirk Baxley brings an unmatched intensity as the lead vocalist. His four time nomination for Best Frontman/Male Vocal Performance by the Dallas Observer proves that Baxley is a very driven, energetic and passionate personality. As a classically trained vocalist, he performed in front of an audience in the first grade and has been entertaining on stage ever since. At the age of 16, Kirk joined his second band called Plumbline, in which he played percussion and guitar and sang background vocals. Two members of Plumbline and Kirk decided to branch off and form their very own band entitled Unveiled. This band would be the foundation laid for the musical and spiritual experiences to come. The Kirk Baxley Band began to play events and eventually changed the band name to Sterling, which eventually became Lesermor. Lesermor recorded a three song demo and two live cuts with Pushmonkey's very own Will Hoffman, and in late spring 2000, Lesermor was approached and eventually signed by Brando Records, a large independent label and Rainmaker Artists management group. During this phase, Lesermor changed their name to Greatness in Tragedy. Greatness in Tragedy released a self titled debut album produced by David Castell. A highlight track included was "give" which was produced by Blue October's very own, Justin Furstenfield. Kirk in turn is featured on Blue October’s latest Universal release Foiled- Track 10 : “Drill the Wire Through My Cheek”. Kirk has been fortunate enough to have shared the stage with many amazing musicians and bands including: Blue October, Zayra Alvarez, Flyleaf, Vallejo, Pushmonkey, Gin Blossoms, Soul Asylum, the Feds, SouthFm, Flickerstick, the Vanished, Bowling for Soup, Edgewater, Endochine, Radiant, Burden Brothers, Copeland, Eisley, The Scabs, Bob Schneider, The Dreaming, Great White and many more...

Drew Walters on bass has played a part in the creation or the development of such notable bands as Damesviolet, Alpha Rev, and many other singer writers as well. Drew has toured the nation and shared the stage with many national acts. Drew's on stage charisma in addition to his style of "playing the song and not the parts", setting a solid back beat to dynamic songs. Due to Drew's insightful ear and on target knowledge of what works in the music industry, he was able to co-produce the Pilot Radio album, Antiques. Drew then joined up with Zak Loy in Damesviolet in 2004 and co-wrote Damesviolet's Upside Down in 2006. Mulit-tasking should be Drew's middle name, as in 2005 he helped form Alpha Rev with Casey McPearson and also performed bass on their E.P., other mixes and co-wrote "The Beauty of Falling Down". Drew's passion for music drives him absolutely

Legendary Buddy Holly where he found his passion for music at a young age. Julian is most notably recognized for his work with the band Canvas and with platinum recording artists, Blue October. He played lead guitar in the band, Canvas, from 1999 until the band parted ways in 2006. That same year, Julian played guitar on Blue October's Foiled tour, covering Justin Furstenfeld's guitar parts while injured. Julian's guitar playing can be heard on Blue October's August 4, 2006 Lollapalooza performance, as well as their June 28, 2006 performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He can be seen performing with Blue October during their 2006 VH1 sessions and he also played Blue October's first shows in Europe, Mexico and Canada. Most notably, Julian performed with Blue October during their November 14, 2006 concert, opening for The Rolling Stones. He was the original guitarist for (a+)machines which was formed by Matt Noveskey from Blue October. He is currently the lead guitarist for the band MOTHERS ANTHEM which he formed in the summer of 2007

I play drums for MOTHERS ANTHEM and to tell you the truth, it's the only band on this planet I can imagine being in. The guys in my band are the coolest cats you could ask for, not to mention the talent these guys have. They are ALL amazing players, amazing people, and the vibe we feel when we get in the room together is uncanny. Music is and has always been the only thing I'm truly passionate about. Aside from band stuff, I love spending time with friends and simply enjoying life. This world is full of so many remarkable things that it overwhelms me sometimes. From the sound of ocean waves, to children's laughter, to the vast depths of our universe... it's humbling to look up into the night sky and see nothing but endless possibilities. We are all so blessed to have life and to take it for granted is such a waste. Make every day count for something.

On guitar has been performing live since he was 13 years old. 10 of which have been with groundbreaking and multi award winning Austin band Damesviolet who was managed by Mark Proct, Mike Regan and Bridget Baur. Zak released 3 records with Damesviolet. Recorded an E.P. and a Record with Alpha Rev, has also played on alot of other records for artist. Thanks to his talented multiple best guitarist nominations, Zak has been fortunate to have a successful career, being a part of 7 U.S. tours with performances at many notable venues including The Viper Room and The Knitting Factory. He has played festivals along with and or opened up for The Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Lit, Dishwalla, Blue October, Bush, Days of the New, Edwin McCain, Avril Lavigne, Ok Go, Mat Kearney,Vast, The Dreaming, Tantric, Great White and many more
