About Me

Dwalyn Jackson, trumpeter, bassist, born in New Iberia, Louisiana. He was introduced to the trumpet by his uncle Dwayne Murray at an early age. His background primarily classical. Jazz became a part of his life early during high school days playing in the school Jazz band. In the early days of his career he was known as the High note man playing the tags at the end of all the big band charts. After completing high school he continued his studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana to pursue a degree in music education. At U.S.L. he studied and played classical music as his main focus but still participating in the University's Top Jazz band starting off at the bottom and gradually working his way up to Lead. While at U.S.L. he had the opportunity to study with trumpet under Dr. Mortenson and Rich Stozel. He studied Jazz under Dr. Bob Lucky with classical being his main focus. After obtaining a degree in music education program at U.S.L., Jackson began teaching in the St. Landry Parish Schools System (Opelousas High School )for a year while also attending Southern University Baton Rouge perusing a Masters Degree in Administration / Supervision. The following year Jackson transferred to Iberia Parish School system as Band Director of the Jeanerette Senior high School Band and remained for 4 years. Afterwards he became the director of the Westgate High School Band for 8 years. In addition to regularly performing with “Boundless Horizon” he also performs for weddings around Louisiana classical, jazz and other forms of secular music. Dwalyn was featured in the September 2006 Instrumentalist Magazine which did a spotlight article on the different method that are used to ensure that the band program is successful. Dwalyn is presently the assistant principal at Anderson Middle School .

My personal interest includes the creation of music of all styles. I like reproducing tracks of old songs and taking the challenge of trying to recreate the exact same sound out of my Sound modules. I also have an interest in recording and enjoy working with people as they visit my home recording studio to reproduce their thoughts. Nothing excites me more than seeing the expression on their face after the project is complete. I also like restoring antique vehicles.

I am currently in the middle of composing Three modern pieces for Trumpet and Piano. They are based on the Southern Traditions of Louisiana and their influences. These instrumental works are Twentieth century and may seem a little strange at first but after hearing the rational for them I think that they will be appreciated. I will add clips of them in the near future.

I also enjoy playing and composing Jazz. It is the inspiration that keeps me going and is part of the reason why I am where I am today.

I also compose midi and wave files for all occasions. I use Sonar 5.00, Sound Forge 8.0, Cool Pro Edit, Wave Lab, Digital Orchestrator Plus, along with a Roland Sound Canvas, GS1000R, Boss Dr.- 660, Roland xp60 Alesis 6.1 and a Peavey DPM4 to create midi as well as wave files.
