I am a huge The Simpsons fan and if you haven't seen it in a while I suggest giving it another try as its greatly improved over the last 2 seasons. I also enjoyed Futurama that show had limitless potential! Heroes, Smallville, The Shield, Scrubs, WWE, and Baseball Tonight are my favorite non-animated shows.

Books:

The Wheel of Time- its a long series and just keeps getting longer, but I fully recommend it and these other books- available at your local library: The Great Gatsby, Midnight's Children, but not so much Dan Brown books, A Clockwork Orange, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest, Moby Dick, War and Peace, The Ender Series, not Catcher in the Rye, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, The DragonLance Chronicles, Catch-22, The Prince
