"Always Play The Truth" -Paul Wertico

About Me

Growing up in the hub of the world, Rochester, NH, I fell in love with the tubs at an early age. My music teacher, Ms. Z, introduced me to percussion in third grade and asked if I would join the school band. Immediately I was in the School bands as well as jazz combos and big band. High school hit, that's when sports became my main priority. Played lots still though. In college the guys I was playing with introduced me to some really hip music, Coltrane and Monk, and that's where it all began. I've had the opportunity to perform with some great artists such as Stan Trujillo (saxman for the Woody Herman and Stan Kenton Orchestras), Steve Rucker (drummer with the Bee Gees), Shawn Monteiro, Kimberly Dahme (bassist for Boston) Tony Sarno (Blood Sweat and Tears, The Thunderhawks, Peter Tork) and Al Hospers (Buddy Rich Big Band, Blood Sweat and Tears). I've had the opportunity to record most recently with Larry Gelberg and Thom Keith for Avant Coast. I've had the good fortune to record with Bob McCarthy, Ben Rudnick and Friends, The Best of Boston 2004 Jazz compilation, Oddway, and Jeremy mathison. Ben Rudnick and Friends' albums have received numerous awards, most notably for "Blast Off" it got four stars in Downbeat Magazine. I have performed at such venues as The Regatta Bar, Cambridge, MA; the Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, VT; The Manchester Jazz and Blues Festival in Manchester, NH; the Hatch Shell in Boston, MA; the House of Blues in Cambridge, MA; the Lincoln Center in NYC, NY; the Palace Theater in Manchester, NH; The Newburyport Jazz and Heritage Festival, Newburyport, Ma; the famed CBGB's in NYC, NY; The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH, The Wendy's LPGA Championship in Columbus, OH; The Bowery Poetry Club in NYC; and numerous clubs and festivals throughout the country. I studied Jazz at Plymouth State College with Tim Gilmore (1998-2000) and Eric Hughes (1996-1998), then after college went on to study with Rakalam Bob Moses (2000-2002), Roberto Vizcaino Guillot (of Cubanismo) (Summer 1997 Berklee World Percussion Festival), and with my mentors Jeff Ballard (2007-2008) and Bob Gullotti (2002-2008). My main love is jazz and improvisational music, but will absolutely play any music that has power, meaning, and most of all...soul. I am a proud endorser of Silverfox Drumsticks. I am available for gigs, recording, or sessions, so feel free to give a shout!
