J-Six (James Jan) has been at the forefront of the dance music scene in Taiwan ever since he started the first DJ community at his university in 1991. In 1993 he became a resident at Taipei’s first dance venue in a small basement called Spin. With influences as varied as The Doors, Bob Marley, Depeche Mode, New Order, Happy Mondays, Danny Tenaglia, Richie Hawtin, Dr. Dre, Blur, Nirvana, and Radiohead, he managed to fuse these together along with requests from the crowd to a quite literally packed house every night (I know, I was there!).His love of music helped to land him a job at Sony/BMG Records Taipei office where he marketed and released numerous Skint and Bedrock offerings by Fatboy Slim, John Digweed, and Sasha, among many others. With his vast knowledge of global dance music, and unrivaled expertise behind the turntables, James soon became a hot commodity in such Taipei clubs as B-Side, 45, Milk, R18, and @live all through the 90’s.But it wasn’t until 2001 when theLOOP Production Company approached James to be their Program Director for their now legendary club 2F (Second Floor), when and where he truly excelled. In 2003 theLOOP opened Taiwan’s premier club LUXY, and since 2001 together they have been producing massive indoor/outdoor semi-annual events for up to 10,000 people featuring J-Six spinning alongside Paul van Dyk, Deep Dish, and a very impressed Sasha, as well as almost anyone else you care to mention from the world of dance music, all booked by James himself. Perhaps his highest accolade to date came when he was invited to spin at Global Gathering 2007.Currently, James spends increasingly more time in theLOOP studio working closely with other artists such as local diva Angie Lee; with whom he has created a very well received live act. He looks forward to producing his own tracks as well as continuing to develop his live act along the vein of Tiesto in Concert and Armin van Buuren’s AHOY.
