Help us to establish a just and lasting peace for Palestinians & Israelis. The illegal wall cutting through Palestinian communities must fall before peace can be reached. Walls don't build peace. People do.

June 5th 2007 marks the 40th anniversary of Israel's occupation of Palestinian lands.
Part of this occupation has seen the construction of a 700-kilometre wall that cuts through Palestinian communities, dividing families and their lands, keeping farmers from their crops and denying people freedom of movement.
The International Court of Justice declared the wall to be illegal in 2004 and instructed Israel to dismantle it and its associated checkpoints. Yet Israel continues to build it and it’s due for completion this year.
Israel says the wall is for security. Palestinians state that the wall annexes land that should form part of a future Palestinian state. Both sides in this conflict have been responsible for the killing of innocent civilians. Israel has the right to protect its citizens from attack. However, Israel does not have the right to violate the rights of other people to achieve this.
As an occupying power, Israel has clear responsibilities under international human rights and humanitarian law. Working with a number of Israeli and Palestinian partners, Trócaire supports work on justice and human rights.
Trócaire is asking the Israeli government to fully implement all the recommendations of the International Court of Justice (opens pdf). Trócaire is asking the Irish and UK governments to ensure the implementation of the ICJ’s decision on the wall through an inclusive and proactive approach to building peace founded on respect for human rights.
