My daughter was born July 31, 2003. Her name is Ashley and she weighed 8lbs, 13 ozs. She was THE perfect baby and I eagerly awaited the challenges of fatherhod! Everything went well for the first 2.5 years of her life, until Ashley came down with what appeared to be the flu in December 2005. After of week of flu symptoms and her doctor's not being able to find anything wrong, our gut instinct told us to visit the emergency room. A CAT scan taken during this ER visit showed us there was a large tumor growing inside our little girls head. I will never forget the look on the ER doctor's face when he walked back into the room and put up the scan on the light board! Three days later, Ashley had surgery to remove the tumor. A week after discovering the tumor, Ashley recovered so well, so fast, she was able to go home for Christmas! In January 2006, Ashley's oncologist told us she needed chemotherapy and radiation. From February 2006 thru August 2006, Ashley received three regular doses of chemotherapy, six weeks of radiation (Mon-Fri), a stem cell harvest, and three high doses of chemotherapy with stem cell transplant. In December 2006, the oncologist showed us another tumor growing. In January 2007, we were told to go to Chicago for experimental treatment since chemotherapy and radiation didn't work. Since then, Ashley's tumor remains stable with the help of her experimental pills! But because of the tumor or the late effects of her previous chemotherapy, Ashley has difficulty walking. We are currently working on this new challenge! PLEASE support your local Children's hospitals, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the MAAC Fund, the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, the National Children's Cancer Society and your local blood centers! Every little bit helps!!
