A shotta, in the slang of Jamaica, is a person who is considered a gangster or street hustler who does not necessarily fit in with the typical gang-member criteria. 'Shotta' is a term which originated in Jamaica and has been introduced into the mainstream through teenage youth. However in Jamaica the shotta is not really a fashion trend for the low wealth of the country often makes it hard to obtain such expensive clothes. The concept of a shotta can also be defined by its dress rather than its activities. Tight-fitting expensive denim jeans/hip-hop style jackets and the prevalent wear of 'bling' such as neck jewelry etc. The most prominent feature of the shotta style however are the often-worn expensive tinted shades. True shottas are usually of Jamaican origin but can be a member of practically any race. Notable celebrities who have worn the shotta-attire are Juelz Santana/Usher/Omarion/ Jim Jones/and Sean Paul.
