About Me

Ethan Boroian was born on the 26th of October 1989 in Flossmoor, Illinois and moved to France at the age of two. He is from a family of musicians, so his love for music was no surprise.
He began playing guitar at the age of 13 when he was invited to join a rock band by two of his friends. Ethan joined the band after playing guitar for only a few months. Overwhelmed by the instrument, Ethan became addicted to playing guitar. “I wanted to learn how to play all the different styles of music, everything from blues to salsa, but at the time I was learning all the rock I could because that’s the style my band played and that’s what all my friends were into…” The band, “Jona’s Basement”, played various clubs, including New Morning in Paris.
It was only after the band broke up in 2003 that Ethan began approaching different styles of music “I started listening to a lot of John Mayer, and something about his lyrics and melodies captivated me… I read his bio and remembered that he started playing guitar thanks to a Stevie Ray Vaughan cassette that his neighbour gave to him, so that’s what turned me on to Stevie… I went out and bought Texas Flood, Stevie’s first studio album and was speechless… I couldn’t begin to explain the emotions channelled through guitar playing…it seemed so simple yet so complex… I started buying all his DVD’s with my brother and every time I watched I said to myself, that’s what I want to be when I grow up”. After a year of playing strictly Blues and Jazz, listening to SRV, Buddy Guy, Hendrix, B.B King, Clapton and all the other classics, Ethan decided to move forward, he began listening to fusion and musicians such as Greg Howe and Guthrie Govan. “I loved it, the guitar playing was heavy yet controlled, flawless…”.
While he tried to learn all the different techniques of these musicians, Ethan was still listening to all the singer/songwriters he could get his hands on, “I loved to listen to guitar tracks, however I needed to hear melodies and words from the heart, my musical genesis is thanks to John Mayer’s music, his early tunes on Room for Squares still baffle me… He taught me to never pick up a guitar before having the idea for a song …” Ethan quickly decided to lay down his love for the blues and concentrate on writing songs of his own, “I waited the longest time before starting to write my own songs because I didn’t feel like I had enough life experience to assure my lyrics were sincere and I wanted the listener to be able to relate to my songs…”. Inspired by musicians such as The Fray and Ana Nalick, Ethan continued to learn all he could from his favourite artists, “I felt that with all the different pieces I had picked up over time, I could start building my own projects…”.
Ethan’s songs vary from subjects to styles; no matter what the song, the lyrics stay honest and true. On songs such as “Broken Home”, Ethan takes on the subject of divorce from the children’s perspective, on “Free” Ethan demonstrates the fragility of life when cancer is involved, and “In This World of Mine” explains the difficulties of loving again when a heart has been broken too many times… Whatever the song, Ethan Boroian hits the mind, body and soul of the subject and our hearts with his bold lyrics and catchy melodies. “All the songs I write are from either personal experiences or experiences of my closest friends, they are never random subjects that I think to myself ‘hey, no one has done that before’, they have to be real…”.
