BIO: Color Wheel was formed in 1995, creating a unique blend of Jam, Blues, Trip-Hop, Funk, Rock and R&B. With influences ranging from Herbie Hancock, Tower of Power, Tribal Tech, Phish, Yes, Van Morrison and The Dead, CW knows no Genre Boundaries. Combining dynamite musicianship with electric stage presence, there's a good chance that you've seen these guys light it up over the last decade in Ohio. Original founder, Toby Koeth, plays bass and is the lead vocalist, providing a smooth, yet aggressive fretless pocket. Ben Nieves, who now also plays lead guitar for Big Brother and the Holding Company, is one of the greatest guitarists around. Dan Moss is the drummer, has recently retired due to medical illness. He proudly held down the throne from 2001-2009, and now we wish him better health and a more comfortable life. Sean Newbill, left the band in 2006 to pursue a medical career, is probably the best unsigned organ player around, also playing synth, Fender Rhodes and vocals. He brings an acid-jazz feel to the band with his style in that of John Medeski. Aaron rice plays Sax, Flute and even Pennywhistle for the Wheel, and is one cool beboppin' brother. He has since moved to CHicago to pursue a comedy career for SCTV. Drummer Jim Wall, one of the best around is playing with Color Wheel now, and he, Ben and Toby have been throwing down some hot local funk as of late, along with some help from Steve Camp on vocals, and even Robb First joined them on percussion for a show. One cool part of this band is the fact that they are so open to outside musicians joining them onstage. It's the theory that, "If your friends can play, why not play with you Friends? It's how we were raised..." Color Wheel has seen both Managers, Chip Killinger and Marty Mooney pass away while running the show. It's not a curse, it's called life. CW has recorded three studio CD's, and will have some new audio and video to post soon. Color Wheel is an Award Winning group, named Best Rock Band of the 2005 New York International Music Fest, National Runner-Up in 2001 @ The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. CW played @ Jacobs Field for the 1997 MLB All-Star Game, the 2003 Gran Prix, and has shared the stage with JGB, Jeff Lorber, The Glass Harp, the Wailers, Third Eye Blind, Liquid Soul, Rick Derringer, Three Dog Night, Average White Band and many more great International performers. Stay tuned in, and we'll keep the audio and video fresh and updated.
