Pour rejoindre leur campement, des soldats de la Cavalerie se voient contraint à traverser le territoire des Indiens qu'ils combattent. Au cours d'une attaque surprise, toute la troupe sera décimée en quelques secondes. Seul le commandant de l'escouade, le major Bates, parviendra à s'en sortir vivant.
Plus tard, Bates se retrouve à la tête d'un nouveau groupe de soldats.
La longue marche qu'il impose à ses hommes affecte son autorité et le moral des troupes. Petit à petit, la tension devient palpable entre Bates et son premier lieutenant. Le lieutenant Dickson, tout juste sorti de l'école militaire, devra bientôt choisir entre son devoir et ses propres convictions.
Arrivé sur les terres sacrées des Indiens, le major doit prendre une décision lourde de conséquences. Contre l'avis général, il décide de violer, à nouveau, ce territoire interdit.
L'affrontement est, dès lors, inéluctable. Bates est prêt à tout !
Prêt à se battre contre un ennemi désespérément invisible.
Prêt à sacrifier la vie de ses hommes pour obtenir sa revanche.
Mais lorsqu'il se retrouvera face aux Indiens,
toutes ses certitudes se verront remises en question.
To join their camp, some soldiers of the Cavalry must cross the territory of the Indians whom they fight. During a surprised attack, all the troop will be decimated in a few seconds. Only the captain of the squad, major Bates, will survive.

The long walk which he imposes to his men affects his authority and moral troops. Gradually, the tension becomes real between Bates and his first lieutenant. Lieutenant Dickson, young graduate of the military academy, will have to choose soon between his duty and his own convictions.
In front of the Indian's sacred territory, the major must make an important decision. Against the general opinion, he decides to desecrate, once more, this prohibited territory.
Consequently, the confrontation is inescapable. Bates is prepared to do anything !
Prepared to be fought against a hopelessly invisible enemy.
Prepared to sacrifice the life of his men to obtain his revenge.
But when he will look the Indians full in the face,
all his certainty will be destroyed.
À l'origine, TERRITOIRE INTERDIT devait être un exercice de style. Christophe Monier, le réalisateur, voulait s'essayer à un genre. Le film d'action.
Il a ainsi imaginé une histoire de soldats dont le périple est ponctué d'attaques et de batailles. Le parti-pris de départ (et la gageure) étant de réussir à recréer, aujourd'hui, à quelques kilomètres de Paris, un "western" typiquement américain.
Pour y parvenir, la crédibilité du film se devait de reposer sur des codes propres à ce genre de cinéma. Une musique hollywoodienne, un montage très dynamique et des comédiens convaincants.
Un pari ambitieux, sinon risqué, qui nous semble aujourd'hui avoir été gagné... bien au delà de nos espérances ! Car, si les références sont américaines, le film reste français. Nous n'avons donc pas manqué de lui insuffler une touche beaucoup plus personnelle, non dénuée de poésie.

A ambitious (and risked) bet, which we won today... well beyond our hopes ! Because, if the references are American, the film remains a french film. Also, we insufflated to him a touch much more personal, not stripped of poetry.
