“To arouse or stir up the emotions or feelings †that’s the dictionary definition of exciting but it also describes the hard rock band Supe (pronounced “shoopâ€). Formed in Japan over eight years ago, Supe relocated to Los Angeles in 2003 to “stir up emotions“ in the U.S. with their energetic music and contagious live show.
One fan in Texas wrote, “These guys are one of the most dynamic,
exciting and energetic bands I have seen in years! These guys put on
a show in a small club with the same energy of an arena." Mike.
In 2006 Supe independently released a six-song EP Grow in the Cold, which has sold nearly 10,000 units and features the single “Shade,†which is still on radio playlists around the world.
A New Mexico music writer had this to say about Grow in the Cold,
“Language can create barriers. Music can tear those barriers down.
Or in the case of Supe's hard-driving, pulse-pounding rock sound,
those barriers are ripped in two, dropped repeatedly on their heads
and left in a thumb-sucking fetal position.†Lukas.
In the fall of 2007 Supe went back to work in the studio to create their first full length CD. Produced by Sylvia Massy Shivy (Tool, System of a Down, Powerman 5000), this 11-song disc, titled 2nd Place to None, contains the most powerful and prolific music written and performed by Supe in a style that is, well, second to none!
Released in 2008 on Buddy Records / Activate Entertainment, the world is about to get a big dose of Supe with 2nd Place To None featuring the rock single “Do I Care†and the powerful ballad “Perfect Libraâ€.
The heavy beats of RyoZ coupled with Toru’s bass are the driving force of Supe. But the dueling guitars of takeshi and ARI create melodies that serve as a perfect platform for Kihiro’s aggressive vocals. Supe is dynamic band of the highest octane. If adrenaline is found in music, Supe holds the copyright!
Music Connections
A true bundle of energy, Supe rises above the mass of hard-rock bands to create a higher level of play. Unafraid to tackle complex and controversial social issues, Supes music, combined with a visually stunning stage show, certainly leaves a lasting impression. This ensemble of skilled musicians know how to rock.
MELODIC.NET Reviews
-You know back in the old days when you bought an album with a Japanese band, you always had to deal with their accent but it's not like that at all with Supe - they sound like a true all American band...-
Alternative Addiction Reviews
'Shade', 'Naked Kings' and 'Good Face' follow the same pattern of energetic crunch and aural addiction, the pace only diminishing with the welcome respite of 'The Only One'-still a heavy track by anyone else's standards, but not in the context of this offering. Brilliantly recorded and brilliantly played with the raw enthusiasm that can only be nurtured by self belief, Supe's "Grow in the Cold" has one major drawback...
