Evie.D. :(|). dafeo. and so on.

My Interests

Dance, travel, writing, the Tribe, beaches, movies, television, art, art history, Greek culture, culture in general, Salvador Dalí, music, languages, the Tribe, the 2004 World Champion Boston Red Sox, basketball, football, your mom, blogging every inane thought that comes into my head, mojitos, parties, parties with mojitos, the Heights, love (notice how I put the Heights and love next to each other), sociology, anything that can make me laugh, learning Portuguese, pretending I know any Italian beyond opera/Tiziano, irony (and appreciation thereof), memories, taking pictures for absolutely no reason, buying shoes that I'll never wear, reunions, the familiar, the e x o t i c .The list goes on...

I'd like to meet:

Anyone , really, especially if you can make me laugh. I love to meet new people so hit me up. And if you can be original and spare me the whole "yo ma you mad cute" type messages, even better. Looks fade, character doesn't. And I ain't your ma! Peace!

Music:

Everything, really, except for country.

Gotta have love for La India, Marc Anthony, Earth Wind and Fire, Bob Marley, Juan Luis Guerra, U2, Coldplay, DLG, Stevie Wonder, India.Arie, Maná, the Isley Brothers, Joss Stone, Musiq, Nat King Cole, janet, Marvin Gaye, Gypsy Kings, Biggie, Ketama, Al Green, R. Kelly, Tiziano Ferro, Nas, Beethoven (and most other classical, especially Schumann), Miles Davis (and most other jazz), anything old school.I love listening to foreign music because it helps me learn different languages, or at least have a very limited understanding. Pavarotti, Bocelli, and most opera. All in all, hip-hop, R&B, Latin (Monchy & Alexandra, Ketama, Los Amigos Invisibles [though they don't really have a genre as a certain someone has told me time and again]), and so on. Right now I'm a huge Corinne Bailey Rae fan.

Movies:

The Godfather (I & II), Face/Off, Goodfellas, Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life, Closer (so fucked up but you can't look away), the Lion King, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Shawshank Redemption, City of God, Finding Nemo, Delirious (not really a movie I guess, but who cares, it's hilarious), Braveheart , The Little Mermaid, Monsters Inc. (yes, I'm 7). That list, too, goes on...

Television:

Where do I begin... Chappelle Show, The Boondocks, Scrubs, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Drawn Together, Jeopardy, Law and Order, the Simpsons, Family Guy, Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Aqua Teen, Harvey Birdman, Conan O'Brien the Daily Show, South Park, Saturday Night Live when it didn't suck...which means I watch the stuff from 20 years ago. I was brought up on the good shit -- I Love Lucy, the Twilight Zone, All In the Family, MASH, the Flintsones, Get Smart, Taxi, the 3 Stooges, the Honeymooners, and so forth...

Books:

The Decameron, Cien Años de Soledad (in Spanish, bitches!), absolutely anything by Jorge Luis Borges and Aristophanes. They are each hilarious and tragic in their own ways. I also like Shakespeare and any analytical sociology papers/books (ie Barthes and most ethnography) that make me think. I'm also a big Vonnegut and Bradbury fan...if you could put a Dalí painting into words, they'd be it. Plato's "Symposium." And so on. My dream is to one day read Zorba the Greek in Greek...maybe then it won't be so boring. Right now I'm really up on Sedaris, Lorca, Neruda, and all the other things on my bookshelf that I never bothered to read.

Heroes:

My parents. They have sacrificed so much for little ole me

Honorable mentions: the Tribe, Nick Marinaro, ASV99, Diana, and my gemelo, because they never fail to inspire and encourage.

That's the question I'm asking myself, a la Rick James, because I am in some pain. My weekend was going innocently enough...going out with the family to celebrate my employed (yet uninhabited in New ...

Frivolity at its finest

That would be me about now, particularly that I have noticed that my profile views have hit the 500+ mark. This is like the highlight of my summer.  Kidding, of course. Anyway. I think the m...

What is the world coming to?

Dino's comment in my previous blog got me in a mini-rant sort of mood, for the good or bad... - On the Amazing Race 3 tip (pardon the obsessiveness [sp?], but it really is a good ass show): I wasn't s...

Things I've discovered

It's been a pretty mellow/pensive week for me. Nothing crazy, no trips to New York, just a lot of living inside my own head, which is good but also pretty bad in its own way. The dreams that I've been...

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...or something like that

I was scrolling through the photos on my iPod when I realized that, as semi-relaxing/semi-infuriating this summer has been, there are some things that I really do miss. Talking to people in the city m...
