I am here for Friends

About Me

My name is Trinlay Thaye Dorje and I am the head of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. I am known as Karmapa or the Black Hat Lama of Tibet. There are four schools of Tibetan Buddhism, one of which is the Gelug school of the Dalai Lama. The very first Karmapa was born in 1110 and started the first incarnate lineage of lamas in Tibet.
Since there are so many young people online who are keen to know what Buddhism is, I have agreed to the proposal and would like to use this opportunity for sharing Buddhist values. I wish that the methods of Dharma (Buddha's teachings) will be helpful in your daily lives.
You can see www.karmapa.org for background details.

On 18th May 2007 I started a 12 week European tour that will end in August. I'm coming to teach and meet my students.

I have written a blog and I will be keeping it up to date during my visit, so you can share in my experiences and interact with me. Some videos have also been filmed and are on-line here. Please become my friend and watch out for more updates.

Following the tour of Europe, I am now busy back in India, studying, meditating and working hard. I look forward to seeing you all again and will be back in touch with everyone as soon as there is time.

My Interests

Sketching, walking

I'd like to meet:

There are definitely some individuals I would have liked to have met:
Of course being a Buddhist the number one would be to meet the Buddha alive. And Mahatma Gandhi – who led the whole nation of India to freedom through non-violence.

It would have been fun to meet the Beatles or Elvis.

Music:

Eagle Eye Cherry (especially "Save Tonight"), "Don’t lie" (by the Black Eyed Peas), Beethoven, Mozart

Movies:

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Action movies like Spiderman - I loved Spiderman 3.

Television:

BBC and CNN news are great for opening one’s eyes – a way to connect to the world. The Simpsons and Lost.

Books:

I have read mostly Dharma books. These are books about Buddhism.

Heroes:

Cricket: Kevin Pietersen and Freddie Flinthoff. My favourite team is South Africa so I would love to meet Shaun Pollock and AB de Villiers.
Actors: Peter O’Toole (Lawrence of Arabia is a great movie)
