Cleptoz collaborated and stormed onto the Indianapolis music scene in 2001 with original crowd pleasers like “Its About 2 Go Down,” “All Along I Knew,” and “Where U Wanna Ride?” Drawing heavy influence from Outkast, Beastie Boys, and a Tribe Called Quest, Cleptoz have managed to gain the attention and respect from all types of music lovers and party-goers alike. After working with many talented DJ’s around the city, they completed the group with the much needed assistance of DJ Charlie Tropics in the spring of 2006. Cleptoz (Hum.V, Dizzy, and B.C) have been sharpening their songwriting abilities and perfecting every element of their live show ever since. Throughout this time they have amassed large and faithful fan base throughout the entire Midwest.
Aside from having on stage performances broadcasted live on WXIN-TV FOX 59’s Morning Show and WNOU Radio Now 93.1’s weekend mix, Cleptoz have also been regarded as one of Indianapolis’s Top Ten Live Acts by Indy Intake Magazine numerous times. Along with steady radio rotation in Indianapolis and surrounding areas, the Cleptoz’ schedule has allowed them to gain some national exposure by playing venues in some larger cities such as Columbus, OH, Chicago, IL, Bloomington, IN, Louisville, KY, Champaign, IL, and even airplay in Las Vegas, NV. However, nothing compares to being chosen by club owners to represent their city by opening up for many mainstream national recording artists such as Kanye West, Twista (x2), Common, The Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghoastface Killah, The Roots, Jurassic 5, Rhymefest, Dem Franchize Boyz, DJ Qbert & The X-ecutioners, and most recently, The Clipse!
In April of 2005 Cleptoz released their debut album entitled; Thick as Thieves featuring the local radio hit “Right Now.” This 19 track ‘autobiography’ captured everything from Hum.V’s extreme personality and contagious flow, to Dizzy’s witty wordplay and insightful lyrics, to B.C.’s smooth conversational rap style. Produced by some of Naptown’s top Producers George Johnson and Animal House Prod., Thick as Thieves demonstrated Cleptoz not only had the charisma to rock a crowd, but they also came equipped with the gift of sharp, catchy song writing. The LP touched on various subjects ranging from the ups and downs of relationships, controversial views on religion and the current war in Iraq, odes to their parents, their passion for music and various outlooks on life, and of course some straight up Hip Hop s%t you can’t help but nod your head to.
Their critically acclaimed second LP; Back at It (2006) became an instant favorite amongst Hip Hop circles around their city. Staying true to a self-described formula of “Midwest rhymes and West Coast beats,” Cleptoz excel on "N-Da-Kut," a brash account about partying to self-destruction, and “The Banger,” a track sure to have listeners rolling down windows and turning up systems everywhere. The three MCs deftly discover some humor in “You Don’t Know,” a reminiscing ode to lost girlfriends during the pre-groupie days: “Nah, I ain’t mad, I just try to see past/ how you gave me so much more then my first piece of ass!”, and "IjUsWaNaLuVyA!," an over-the-top stalker's diary that shouldn't be misconstrued thanks to its retro, bubblegum beat: "Sure, I made a few threats, but I would never hurt you/ Just follow all my rules and never miss your curfew…" If placed in the hands of the right person, there is no telling the heights this album could take them.
Their muzik is undeniable, their live show is certainly a sight to see, and every member is focused and hungry for more. Be on the lookout for the Cleptoz, a group soon to be stealing shows in a town near you.
