When you hear the phrase the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, in this case those words couldn’t ring more true. Born the daughter of an amazing talent, Nikki’s mother was a professional singer who had toured the U.S. and Canada. Beverly Sjoberg was an amazing singer with a soulful voice that would just make people stop and pay attention.
After many years of being on the road with her mother and growing up listening to her mother sing night after night and even doing duets with her mother at the tender age of 4 years old, along with the undeniable bloodline, it was a given that Nikki would turn out to be the talent that she has become. Growing up in the business by the time Nikki was 16 years old, she had been to more than 23 schools. After Beverly passed away when Nikki was 16 years old and after many years of being in and watching the business that her mother had laid out for her, Nikki took those next steps and began to find her own nitch and create the talent that she has become today.
Between the years of 2000-2003 Nikki would perform every August at the Penticton B.C. Peach festival. After entering numerous singing competitions she won the Okanagan Star Search in 2001, beating out thousands of other contestants. In 2001 Nikki received a government grant in Kelowna B.C. and began her own recording project. Nikki had done numerous studio projects, working with various different producers during this time. In 2003 Nikki entered and won the Penticton Teen Idol contest, again beating out thousands of other contestants. After being approached by many managers offering to work with her she chose to stay on her own path and between the years of 2002-2004 she had put together her own band and began touring the bar circuits in Canada. During this time singing whenever and wherever she could she had sang the National Anthem at many major sporting events. In 2004 Nikki moved to Calgary Alberta, Nikki began writing and recording with producer Ian Prince. Again she had put together her own band and began hitting the club circuits. In September 2006, she had moved to Vancouver and began working with a new vocal coach. After hearing the potential in her voice it was recommended that she move to Toronto and work with vocal coach Elaine Overholt. While in Toronto she had met up with producer Rob Wells and the songs “I AM†and “Definition Of A Man†were born, in which she co-wrote and co-produced. Rob Wells had passed on the music to some executives at Sony Canada as well as Sony publishing. The feedback has been great.
Nikki is writing and working with various producers to compile material, which will result into her own full length CD. In August 2007, she had traveled to Tampa, Florida to begin writing and recording new material.
This is Nikki’s second trip to the U.S. in regards to recording new material in the last 3 months. She will be going to Orlando to begin working on new material in the first part of November.
We have just recently traveled to New York where we had some meetings with major labels in regards to Nikki. The meetings went very well.
The future is looking bright and Nikki is looking forward to the challenge, seeing as these are already amazing accomplishments for only being 22. Look out world here she comes!
