Station 18, located at 619 Telephone Rd., has been protecting the East Side of Houston for more than 75 years. Located in the shadows of Downtown Houston, Station 18 protects a diverse area including neighborhoods mixed with residences, large commercial buildings, and State Universities. The members of Station 18 are dedicated to protecting the people and property of the City of Houston. .. .. . . . . . . .. . .In 1926 a fire station was opened at 619 Telephone at Eddington. It was a single house with only a pumper. The firehouse was built to blend in with the community. The crew in 1926 consisted of one captain, one engine operator and three firefighters. In 1976, this station closed for total remodeling and engine 18 was moved to 1503 Palmer at Bell in old station 24. In 1978 Station 18 reopened with four apparatus bays and a new modern comunication system. The new station had Engine 18, Medic 18 and a Cascade truck with a crew of seven. In the late 1980s the cascade truck was moved and a ladder truck was placed at Station 18. In 2000, the ladder truck was replaced with a tower ladder. In 2001 Medic 18 became Ambulance 18 staffed with two emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and Squad 18 staffed with two paramedics was placed in service.. . . . .As a result of the massive flooding in Houston from Tropical Storm Allison, the Houston Fire Department suffered losses as well. Among these losses was Station 18. The apparatus were moved to neighboring stations. Engine 18 and Tower 18 were moved to Station 17 at 2805 Navigation and Delano. Ambulance 18 and Squad 18 were moved to Station 25 at 3902 Scott and Rosewood.. . . .. . .In 2002, Station 18 was reopened and all apparatus returned home. For over 75 years members of Station 18 have served the Houston community in what is known as "The East End". Today the station is staffed with twelve members on four rotating twenty-four hour shifts. The personnel consists of one senior captain, one junior captain, four engine operators, four firefighters, and two paramedics.
