A PICTURE OF THE FAMILY..My Name is Michael Corleone and i am the youngest son of Don Vito Corleone I was Born in 1920, I initially wanted nothing to do with the Corleone "family business," enlisting in World War II and returning a decorated war hero, having been awarded the Silver Star. Upon my discharge at the rank of Captain from the Marines, i enrolled at Dartmouth College, but, when my father was nearly assassinated in 1946, i volunteered to murder the men responsible (against the wishes of my brother Sonny.) After shooting and killing Virgil "the Turk" Sollozzo and McCluskey, a police captain, i fled to Sicily and stayed in hiding for two years. While in Sicily, i was hit by the "thunderbolt" and married a young woman named Apollonia, but she was killed by a car bomb intended for meIn 1948, while in Sicily, i learned that Sonny had been murdered and i returned to New York and so i reluctantly became involved in my family's criminal enterprises. I married my longtime girlfriend, Kay Adams, in 1950. After my father's death in 1955, i assumed control of the Corleone crime family, and arranged the murders of the leaders of the New York Mafia's other ruling families: Don Barzini, Philip Tattaglia, Leo Cuneo, and Victor Stracci. He also orders a hit on prominent Las Vegas casino owner Moe Greene, and Carlo Rizzi, my brother-in-law.. Over the next decade, I tried to remove all criminal ties to my family, and left the day-to-day operations of the criminal enterprise in New York to Peter Clemenza. My efforts at redeeming the Family were largely unsuccessful, however, as my many enemies (as well as my own arrogance) kept me involved in the crime underworld. I ordered many murders, but without doubt the worst was that of my own brother, Fredo, in 1959 as revenge for Fredo's unintentionally providing a business partner and rival, Hyman Roth, with information Roth used to try to assassinate me. Having my brother killed haunted me for the rest of my life, alienated me from my son Anthony, and worsened my estrangement from Adams, whom i banned from the Corleone family for aborting MY unborn son.. By the late 1970s, i had made the family business legitimate, funneling all the money from the years of crime into a world bank, Immobiliare. I also began to rekindle my relationship with Adams. I found myself pulled back into the underworld, however, when i took Vincent 'Vinnie' Mancini-Corleone, mu brother Sonny's illegitimate son, under my wing; the hotheaded Vinnie responded to all threats against the Family with brutal violence, reigniting old grudges. Vinnie also began a relationship with my daughter, Mary, a romance i strongly disapproved of.Nevertheless, i appointed Vinnie as my successor in 1980; weary of the bloody, lonely life of a Don, i retired and made my nephew the new Don Corleone (but only after Vinnie agreed to break off the relationship with Mary.) That same night, however, My daughter, Mary was killed in an assassination attempt meant for Me. After my beloved daughter's death, i lost all interest in the Family business and, indeed, life itself. i retired to Sicily and died there in 1997.
