My thoughts on filesharing.
This is just my opinion and I may have some of my facts wrong but I hoping this gets you thinking....
I think file sharing programs should start appealing to the conscience of the people using them and ask them to only share music by unsigned artists !
maybe if they were used responsibly they could be used as a marketing tool instead of the blight that they are at the moment. perhaps someone needs to develop a new type of codec for mp3's with some kind of encoding/downloading protection built in,
microsoft tried it with wma files but nobody wants microsoft to profit from their music so it hasn't really taken off, perhaps if someone made a new one and got everyone behind it, it could work. artists could use lower quality mp3's for promo stuff to be spread through filesharing progs and then the new format could be sold through winamp, media player and itunes.
There are better quality formats than mp3 about now and I'm sure a lot of d'js would rather have a better format to work with, there are loads of usb mixing decks coming out now but most people will tell you that the sound quality of mp3's is not as good as having an original cd's, perhaps a new format would combat this ?
Anyone into the whole eco / hippy / save the gay whale etc thing would see the benefit of using a digital format. I myself have boxes and piles of cd's and vinyl that I no longer play and don't really have the space for, There is a massive industry involved in making and shipping cd's and vinyl but we are gonna have to face the fact that it has had it's day, within a few years no dj's will use cd's anymore as everyone moves over to the cheaper, easier and more reliable format with no moving parts,
anyone serious about their music who wants an original copy should go for vinyl anyway, although vinyl emulation on usb turntables has come a long way in the last few years and although I am personally moving back on to vinyl decks this year I may be tempted to switch one day, The Numark cdx deck shows that it is possible to get so close to the real thing you can hardly tell the difference ( though having no tone arm on the vinyl is quite off putting)
The only way for the music industry to survive this is not to fight it but embrace it ! Remember what happened to EMI when it decided it didn't like punk ? With the likes of radiohead, talamasca and manmademan giving there albums away for free it shows that nobody really knows how to handle this at the moment, I think there needs to be a major shake up before the record labels start sending the riot police through your front door at 4 in the morning to arrest your 12 year old son or daughter for downloading the latest spice girls album,
Only share it if You made it...

This site and most other myspace sites
will be much easier to see if you use Opera
and then select "Fit to width"
I spent the summer of 2004 living in the back of an old delivery van. I have never felt as free as I did then,
Being able to change your view every morning is so refreshing. Whilst moving around the cheap campsites in the Newquay area I spent my spare time working on a korg workstation learning the art of writing tunes. Here is a selection of what I came up with during that time....
If you like these feel free to download the full album
"The Forever Endeavor"
I hope you'll enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.
