Mandisa is a singer/songwriter and musician from South London. It’s a bit hard to define her style of music as she has explored all areas of music since the dawn of her career including Playing Billy Holiday at Catford Broadway Theatre to being in various bands including a “Girl Bandâ€, A Reggae and Rock band.
With all these influences her music is a fusion of them all not to mention her African roots and Mandisa has collaborated with a number of up and coming uk based and international Artists including. Yasmina Viker, Neno(An amazing artist from LA), and various uk Rappers. So if you can find a name for her style holla at her.
In July 2006 Mandisa ventured out to become a solo Artist. She also began a residency at The Famous Express yourself in Leicester square where she gained a new confidence as a solo artist and a new foundation to craft her art. During this time “Disa†also embarked on doing Backing vocals for the soon to be recognize world wide Tony Ozier from Texas(Ranked No9 in Blues and Souls hip list). This adventure took her into the hottest open mic nights and showcases in London and introduced her to the Black British music scene in all its glory.
Mandisa began to show up at these showcases and slowly began to gain the confidence and respect from her peers and began to build up a fan base. Mandisa had been spoiled with support from a band and was forced to learn the keys just so that she could get her art across without compromising her roots. She doesn’t claim to be no Alicia Keys but she is continuing her long journey and hopes to at some point learn the guitar as well.
Under the name of her Arts Company rawD.E.A.L and in conjunction with Instant Melodies Mandisa was the Organiser and 1 of many residents of the Hottest Showcase in Town “Organic†which has been running for the last 14 months and has already showcased 1st class talent from both England and the states including, DragonFly, Kevin Mark Trail, J’Nay, Readnex Poetry Squad(NY), Def Jam Poet Liza Garza and ATL’s Rhonda Thomas Floetic Lara, Adelaid McKenzie and Indigo Brown to name a few.
