About Me

Blame me i wrote about 30 lines the day before yesterday and its been erased from my records somehow! I don't feel like to write all over again but here we go with something.I was born in Brighton, uk, december 1975, moved to Madrid(spain)when only two, and raised there mostly since then.Me dad's from Spain but my stepdad is from Argentina, Kike Blues, who replaced my dad when i was 19(grew up with so many argentinians since then that many people think i'm argentinian sometimes...never been there, though. My mum's side is a bit more complicated than that.My mum was born in Portugal, and raised in swinging London with the hippy hippy shake. Now she's been living in Spain for even longer than i did, so she's 110% bilingual not to say she's culturally very spanish. My mum's mum come from a tipically pure basque family from a tiny village in Gipuzkoa, where they still speak euskara between them i started to learned couple of years ago in fact, i always been good with languages, speak fairly well english, spanish, portuguese, some italian, and now going for the basque. My mum's dad was born and raised in Macau, which is the very last little island in south of China, he came from a portuguese-chinese family(Macau was a portuguese colony for a long time), so i come from a very big cultural background indeed. My dad was a sailor by the time they were expecting me and most of what i can remember from him is traveling, traveling, traveling...Thanks to him, we lived for a full year in Mali(west africa) when i was only 5. I even went to school there in that time man no shit. All i can remember so far from the bambara language they speak is some numbers, kele, fila, nani, duru, wolonguila...but have some awesome memories from that time.I moved to north spain(galicia) to a tiny village(700 people) by the coast for 4 years and then moved to oxford, uk, for another 7 years to finally now decide to go back to madrid after almost 10 years out of what it seems to be my real land( i grew up there), although it seems that im a foreigner even there so i may have no land at all!So long outside...here there and everywhere that's the story of my life so far.Been writing a long. Playing lots of music, deeply involved in politics for a while(anarquism)... .. .. .. .. .. ..

Music:

(DEBAJO VIENE EN CASTELLANO) My parents were hippies, so there was music at all times at home since early younghood, though 60's and 70's were my main influence, i soon discovered all sorts of music were good in my environment. The first musician that recalled my attention when i was young was Jerry Lee Lewis, is still one of my main influences, in fact almost any musician who has anything to do with new orleans get my immediate attention whatever he/she does.Professor Longhair, Dr John, King Ory, Louis Armstrong, Huey piano Smith... always with the hippy background and harmonies of voices like Crosby, Stills and Nash.I never had any proper music tuition when i was younger, except half a year with an awesome argentinian blues/bluegrass guitar player named Tito Larregui, friend of my stepdad, who played with Cañones y mantequilla, probably the best Country music band i ever heard in Spain. And an incredible blues and boogie pianist also from argentina, Ciro Fogliatta, who played and plays with incredible argentinian artists such as Botafogo, Pappo, Calamaro...just to name but some.He was my teacher too for another half a year that's about it, anything else i learned in the streets playing with all sorts of people, in squatters, pubs, etc.I've played in all sorts of bands including flamenco, pure r'n'r, blues, rocky, funk, folk, country, salsa, world music, psichodelia...My first gig i did in a squatter in Madrid, "Minuesa" in 1992, when i didn't even play an instrument yet, just singing and making people laughing. The first few chords i learned by myself in the guitar were Take it easy, by The Eagles, in fact anything by the Eagles was always on my list.Eventually i dicovered i luv country music so much, specially hank williams and the pedal steel guitar players, i know much of the music i luv seems pure virtuosism, but my main influences always been zappa, chet atkins, hellecasters, jose feliciano, stravinsky, art tatum, charlie daniel's band, harry connick, jr, allan hawkshaw...Then i loved to listen to donny hathaway, barbara dennerlein, gipsy music, yardbirds, any mod and hippy music at all senses...i also luv big arrangements for horn sections (that's how i met zappa), kind of "Chicago Transit Authority" album by Chicago, one of my favorites.Luv 60's and hammond is my favorite instrument alongside with pedal steel guitars and tuba.Played with salsoneros (salsa)for 3 or 3 years in oxford, uk www.salsoneros.co.ukPlayed with domine cabra(folk and bagpipes)for quite a while in galicia(spain), with doblando cartas(blues, rock) in madrid(spain), cultura libertaria(funk)in madrid, os tros(rnr) in galicia(spain)...Not playing with anybody at the moment looking for a country band, but i'm going to leave oxford after 7 years to go back to spain for good in july, so i better leave it till i'm there.Hope to bring some downloadables from my own compositions soon to the web but hey, takes time im crap with computers yet.Know how to write, but not how to use 'em. Devil Went Down to Georgia
