In today's turbulent climate of the British film industry, where securing finance to produce a British made feature film is ever increasingly difficult, what does one do to convince potential financiers that their film script is a cut above the rest and somehow gain an advantage against the thousands of script writers/producers that are out there trying to dip into a very small pot? The answer, for producers Lee Phillips and Tony Royden, was extremely simple; to produce a short(24 Minutes) version of a full length feature film script, they totally believed in, as a pilot for potential financiers. The objective was to leave nothing to the imagination. Sounds easy, but Lee and Tony had two massive obstacles to overcome 1)that they had absolutely no budget to work with, and 2)the fact that they were determined not to compromise in production quality in anyway whatsoever - the film had to look, and sound, at its very best.So began the daunting task of producing a short comedy gangster film The Dealer, on a budget of nothing, utilizing the many contacts they had between them, and pulling in as many favours as they could. It seemed a long shot, but what started out as a somewhat over ambitious idea, soon snowballed into something quite spectacular - from the notable cast, to the professional crew, to the lavish locations, people were not only taking to the script, but also the producers' concept, and the response was overwhelming - everyone was prepared to give up their time and talent, on a no fee basis, all sharing the same belief that The Dealer will eventually bear fruit.
