Add to My Profile | More VideosThe piano is her life, her Alpha and Omega, and a faithful friend that has always been there. A perfect day is described by Lena as ..waking up with a new song in my head and sitting in front of the piano until the idea has blossomed and the song is complete... Simply Lena..a true lover of music, of life..and everything that they represent. She was born on February 18th in Havana, Cuba. Lena is the daughter of the famous Cuban singer Malena Burke and granddaughter of the legendary songster Elena Burke. Since early childhood, Lena knew that through her veins flowed a torrent of musical notes, the same notes that have always guided her. She recorded her first songs at the early age of 2 1/2, followed by guitar classes taught by her dad, musical producer, Rey Neiro, at the age of 5. After 11 years of classical piano instruction at the conservatory, Lena becomes a concert pianist, gathering awards and praise; during her musical development she discovered a hidden treasure, her voice... Lena has been blessed with a privileged vocal range and tessitura in her voice, a true musician, and an authentic artist. Her name has been part of an intimate inner-circle in the music industry due to her collaborations as a back-up singer in the productions of some of the most important recording artists of today as: Placido Domingo, Chayanne, Alejandro Sanz, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias and many others. The piano always accompanies Lena to far away places that are filled with emotions, with feelings of love, forgiveness, memories and expectations. Her particular voice backed by her gifted hands at the piano showcases the life of a unique performer. By releasing her self-titled debut album, the songwriter has finally fulfilled her dream, to have her own art shine through. While in the studio recording vocals for No Es Lo Mismo, the latest album by singer/songwriter Alejandro Sanz, Lena sparked the attention of this multiple Grammy® Award-winner, who saw the gift of her voice and introduced her to his recording label company, Warner Music Latina; ..[Lena]told me that my music has been a fountain of inspiration for her since she was a little girl (which did not sit too well with me, as you may understand) .. Lena sat at the piano and started to sing some of her songs and I thought: Since you were little...? This woman has never been little..and then I felt the anxiety, the restless need to show others what I had experienced that night in the studio,.. says the Spanish singer.Everything has changed since that fortunate day; after weeks at a recording studio in Milan, Italy, Lena had finished a musical production with its own personality, carrying Caribbean rhythms with classical traces of her faithful friend, the piano. ..LENA.., produced by Emanuele Ruffinengo (Alejandro Sanz, Ketama) and Bob Benozzo (Alexandre Pires, Ana Bel..n), includes 12 songs, written by her, each capturing different emotions in the life of this young composer. She sings to a forbidden and complicated love in ..Ven y...., to the coldness of affection in ..Que te Perdone Dios.., awakens deep feelings and passions in ..Sigueme.., ..Puedo Jurarlo.., ..Amanecerte La Vida.. and ..Viejos Tiempos... She honors the memory of her beloved grandmother in ..Eterna Pasajera.. and her native land in ..Ororeyra..; ..I wrote it inspired in Cuba.. out of a need to express what my land means to me,.. Lena reveals. Among the other jewels found in this album is the first promotional single ,..Tu Coraz..n.., a duet with Alejandro Sanz; ..I was inspired by Alejandro when I wrote it, inspired by his music .. I always imagined myself singing it with him,.. says Lena. ..I feel very proud and my vanity grows for a few seconds when she says that..,.. explains Sanz who was responsible for christening the song with its title. ..I believe her inherent musical talent and the rhythms of her land are the source of her inspiration, for the rest of LENA..as the songs say..Condemned Me to a Hundred Years,.. he adds.Since the international debut of her self-titled album in May 2005, Lena has completely dedicated herself towards promoting her music. A rewarding journey that has taken her several times to Spain, France, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, M..xico, Puerto Rico, Honduras, as well as to many cities in the United States. Lena..s first three promotional singles, TU CORAZON, PUEDO JURARLO and QUE SERIA DE MI, have reached top positions in video and radio charts, and have become a favorite among fans across the world.Lena has had the blessing of already touching the hearts of many fans with her unique talent, charisma and humbleness. ..The most beautiful thing about these trips has been to get to know new cultures, flavors, sensations, and so many people to whom I have been able to share my music with. I have been lucky enough to play and sing for them, leaving in each and every corner a piece of my soul,.. comments Lena. She has achieved several honors for her initial work. The world famous Baldwin Piano is sponsoring Lena..s musical journey, making her the first Latina musician to represent the brand; due to this relationship, she participated this year at the international renowned music products conference NAMM. In 2005 she also performed at the prestigious television conference MIPCOM, celebrated in Cannes, France. She sang at the 2005 Latin Grammy, Person of the Year Gala, and received a nomination for ..New Artist of the Year.. for Univision Network..s Premio Lo Nuestro 2006, plus being part throughout the year of important concert billboards at an international level. For the remaining of 2006, Lena will continue her promotions and live performances internationally and will mainly concentrate in writing and producing her second album to be release in early 2007.The final consequence in LENA, is the sum of her musical earnings, her legacy, the showcase for her immense talent as a musician and as a songwriter, all these, taken to the portals of a mix of musical genders as pop, rock, the traditional Cuban rhythms, accompanied by the newer Cuban ..Nueva Trova.. sounds.Lena and her loyal companion, the piano, are filled with melodies overflowing with the reminiscences of yesteryears; brighten by a very dazzling road ahead.. ..I did not choose music.. music chose me.., she explains, and for those of us who have already been touched by this uncontrollable flow of musical passion, will agree that this encounter, was destiny in the making..
