Band Members:
LAURENCE HARRIS: electric & acoustic bass, sampling and dial-fiddling.
RAZ: guitars, keyboards, melodica, percussion, sampling and knob-twiddling.
Influences: Laurence and i grew up in the same street on what were then the outskirts of Basingstoke, surrounded by farmland. This area is now called Brighton Hill. Like most kids of our generation, we were encouraged to get involved in bands by the success of The Sex Pistols, The Damned and The Clash but also by lesser-known new wave artists who made their own records on a tiny budget. Despite our association, Laurence and I did not work together until 1996, nearly 20 years on, when circumstance brought us together for a unique partnership. We were both skint but when we pooled our slender musical resources, we quickly developed a style which fused our love of dub and rock with our shared sense of humour.
Laurence recorded Henhouse with his friend and former musical associate, Al Gregg. The kalimba (or 'thumb piano') is played by Parminder Sihota.
Here is a picture of our makeshift studio in Staines. Some of the equipment is machines that Laurence built himself that made wurbly ping-pong effects that i still couldn't begin to explain!
