A frail man, my father insured that I would not be as frail as he and had me trained in a variety of sports from childhood, especially boxing. I went on to study medicine in college and was on the boxing team. I was forced to leave college and look for work when my father died leaving me with a huge financial debt.
Wandering the streets one night I witnessed boxing legend "Socker" Smith being assaulted by two muggers. Because I helped him overcome the attackers, Smith offered to take me under his wing and train me as a boxer. In the following months, I became a contender for the heavy-weight championship, but I had to fight Smith. During the fight, I unwittingly killed my mentor in a fixed boxing bout. Unknown to both of us our managers, Flint and Skinner, placed a needle laced with a powerful sedative in my boxing glove. I was arrested for murder, but Flint and Skinner feared that I knew too much and arranged an accident. On the way to the local police station, the police car veered off an embankment, killing both officers and presumably me. I survived the tragic accident however and became a fugitive from justice.Inspired by the mystery-man Green Lantern, I took on a secret identity, vowing to clear my name. After bringing Flint and Skinner to justice I continue my fight as Wildcat.I am a mystically enhanced human with nine lives granting me a limited immunity to death. Although that number keeps on getting smaller and smaller. I'm also a pretty darn good hand-to-hand combatant if I may say so myself.
