About Me

I am a flamenco teacher and performer in Plymouth, Devon. Flamenco is a growing dance form. It comes from Spain but has influences from many other places, e.g Arabic dancing. Flamenco is the music, singing and dance of the Andalucian Gypsies. It portrays a hard living, anger, love and distress.I am fascinated by different cultures, languages and people. I can speak some farsi, the language of Iran and I have been learning Spanish for approximately 8 months. I would love to become fluent, but think that's unlikely.I enjoy different kinds of food and styles of cooking. I find English food a little boring!I love travel. In 2005 I went to Iran for two weeks and had a fantastic time. The people were great and welcoming and I felt very safe. The best bit for me was spending time with a Nomadic family near Shiraz. The architecture and history is amazing over there. I found wearing Hejab quite hot but I felt much more comfortable and respected there than some other countries where is not mandatory to cover up.I went to Andalucia earlier this year and stayed in a Pueblo blanco and then in Seville. The atmosphere was fantastic and i was glad i could speak some Spanish. The flamenco was fantastic and the music and rhythms could be heard everywhere, e.g. a group of young people breaking out into palmas on a public bus.
