J New, formerly known as Knoxx and born blocks away from the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City to Haitian immigrants, was raised to the beat of everything from Caribbean to American music, right across the Hudson River in nearby Jersey City. He has most recently finished recording his second street CD titled “Breakthruâ€, which features an uncommon mix of Street Hip Hop, R&B, and Gospel served up with a contemporary conscious twist!I’m definitely not mad at nothing J New’s doing right now! Under the succinct management of Renel Duplessis, brother of producer extraordinaire Jerry “Wonder†Duplessis, J New opened up with talented Booga Basement/Interscope Records rapper Reptile for legendary artists such as Wyclef Jean of the Fugees and Destiny’s Child. In addition to his talents on stage, J New also writes all his material with brothers Polo & G-Baby and is heavily involved in the mixing and mastering of his projects. Discovered while free-styling on the Bergen Bus in Jersey City, by talented old school New York City RCA Records Hip Hop Artist Cooley Live, J New was immediately introduced to Gil Keyes, owner and operator of Heavy Weight Productions in Jersey City. Heavy Weight Production’s studio was J New’s first experience with music on an organized business level. To its credit, Heavy Weight Productions has also welcomed into its doors the likes of respected Hip Hop Artist Joe Buddens of Def Jam Records and accomplished Christian Hip Hop Artist B.B. Jay of Jive Records. However the most infamous artist to have worked out Heavy Weight Productions prior to moving to Atlanta, where his career catapulted to super-star status, was Akon of Konvict Music/SRC Records. Akon was not only J New’s long time studio-mate back in Jersey City, but also a mentor to him on and off the streets. Putting J New “under his wing,†as Akon describes it, allowed him to help J New go beyond his natural songwriting ability in order to develop necessary “next-level skills such as Concept Building, Melody & Tuning, and Song Arrangement. As a result, J New is as confident a leader in the studio, as the next artist, and he knows exactly how he wants his music to sound.“What I love about music is being able to reach into someone’s soul and touch their life in a special way. -- J NewWith the support of Hype Man Specialist & brother G-Baby, J New has an energetic and alluring on-stage presence as a performer.
