DEADLY PALE

BACK TO KICK ASS AFTER ALMOST 5 YEARS

About Me

It all started in early 95 when 3 friends Marieve (bass/vocals), Simon (guitar), and Brother (guitar) started fooling around wanting to start a punk rock band.Shortly after they were joined by Hugo (ex Self Control) on drums. Then in 96 Marieve moved to Montreal to be closer to the music scene because there wasn't really much to do where they came from and found a great loft to practice in. After a while the rest of the band who were still living on the South Shore found it complicated to make time in their schedules to always come to Montreal to practice. So they gradually all left the band, but Marieve still wanted to go forward with the project so not too long after she paired up with Mal on drums and Steve on guitar. After auditioning a lot of other guitarist to be on 2nd guitar they decided to stay a trio. And then came their first album in 97 called "Bring me home" which featured a second guitar on a couple of tracks by Pat Ethier a friend of Steve's and a lot of guest vocals particularly a couple by old timer Luc Smith, Self Control's frontman. They then went on to do lots of shows and promote the album until the following year when in fall 98 the drummer decided to call it quits.Marieve and Steve thought right away of a drummer they had shared the stage with a couple of times and that had already cought their attention. They immediately called him up to see if he could be interested in joining the team which he accepted without hesitating, so by the end of 98 they had found their new drummer PsycoPat who at the same time was bringing a more extreme sound to the band. After only a couple of shows, it felt like something was missing, that's when Amelie came along who they already knew but had no idea she could sing. She joined in for a dual vocal attack changing the sound forever with now the addition of screams and growls. Shortly after, Rick an old friend who had just left his former band (Self Control) and liked the new energy asked if he could come sing a couple of songs with them. Rick being an awesome bass player, it didn't take long for them to want him to stay and also play bass. So they now had 2 bass and 3 vocals. Now finally the line up felt solid and complete. So by the summer of 99, Deadly Pale was reinventing themselves and these 3 new members definitely brought a more Hardcore/Grindcore direction in the band. Things couldn't have been better, they were playing shows like crazy and the vibe was amazing, they were on the way of recording the second album when all of a sudden a tragedy happened, one none of them saw coming.....on February 16th 2000, Rick commited suicide, leaving the band helpless, confused and in total shock. Things were going so great, they just couldn't understand what happened, so after the funeral they just didn't have the strength anymore.A couple of months passed and then his friends wanted to throw a jam/party in his honor with people and bands he loved. The band all attended and then someone asked them to play a couple of songs, but they just couldn't. At that moment, Matt, who was one of Rick's closest friend and who also inherited his bass, took it , looked at them and started playing one of their songs. They took it like a sign, right then I think they all understood that Rick would not want them to give up so easily, not without a fight. They knew it would be hard but they had to stand up and go on. So the choice was obvious, Matt was now one of them, he already knew pretty much all of their songs, Rick being his bass teacher, and now with the same bass and the same amp, it was like his spirit was still with them. So after rearranging the songs, in the summer of 2000 they recorded the 2nd album like they had planned and decided to call it "Make it Happen" because it almost did not happen. So they went on, strong as ever and did hundreds of shows all over and opened for a couple of big bands like Cannibal Corpse, U.K Subs and Gwar. And of course suicide becoming such an important cause for them, they did a lot of benefit shows for it as well as causes like breast cancer, deforestation, food banks etc... In 2001 they did the music for the independent film S.P.I.T (squeegee punks in traffic) made by their friend Roach. They also appeared on about a dozen compilations from all over the world and also made 2 videos between 2000 and 2002. Then sadly they did their last show together in January 2003, they all needed a break and they realized they still had issues with what happened in 2000.But now in May 2007 they got back together for a long overdue reunion, they wanted to see if the chemistry was still there...and yes, it still is. So after almost 5 years, they'll perform this summer for the 4th Chaos Fest in Montreal. What will happen next, only time will tell...if they don't kill each other first.
