BACKGROUND: Charles Wallace leads the band "HeadQuarters", who have been at the forefront of the neo-psychedelic rock music movement in New York City since 2001. With a growing catalogue of CD releases (the latest "O and O", on Vibratone records) and extensive touring in the U.S., the band has played major national stages with similar bands The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Soundtrack of Our Lives, Dead Meadow, The Black Angels, and have been featured on many College and national radio stations including KROQ, and preformed live on the legenday indie station WFMU. After 3 successful compilation releases in the UK in 2007 (Northern Star records' "Psychedelica vol. Ein New Yorker in Zürich
Der Exil-Amerikaner und Wahl-Zürcher Charles Wallace ist Sänger und Gitarrist bei der New Yorker Rockband HeadQuarters. Die Band ist seit Jahren eine gefeierte Bühnen-Institution im Umfeld der boomenden Neo-Psychedelic-Bewegung.
Dem aktuellen Album „O and O“ (Vibratone Records) folgte eine ausgedehnte US-Tournee, unter anderem mit Auftritten mit The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Soundtrack of Our Live, Dead Meadow und The Black Angels. Nach drei erfolgreichen Compilation-CD’s auf Nordern Star Records, erscheint im Herbst 2008 der erste europäische Album-Release der Band.
Bis es soweit ist, nutzt Wallace seine Zeit, um in Zürich solistischen Projekten nachzugehen: Nach akkustischen Auftritten im El Lokal, Helsinki Klub und Mata Hari, lädt der amerikanische Troubadour mit dem britischen Haarschnitt nun zum Besuch in sein vorübergehendes „Wohnzimmer“ im Langstrassen Hot-Spot LaCatrina ein. Dort macht es sich Wallace jeden Dienstag Abend im März mit seiner akkustischen Gitarre und ein paar neu erworbenen Vintage-Effektgeräten bequem, um seiner Vorliebe für die Popmusik der Sechzigerjahre zu frönen: Donovan trifft Syd Barret trifft Bob Dylan trifft Velvet Underground – und das alles verpackt in eigene Songs voller Zeitgeist, Politik und Glamour.

While on self-imposed European exile, Charles Wallace sat on the edge of his bed with a borrowed acoustic guitar and conceived the idea of an intermediate solo project. After his first two shows sold out in Zürich, Switzerland (Mata Hari, La Catrina), and a guest set at El Lokal, he decided to invite the city into his make-shift living room, this time at the Mexicana hot-spot, La Catrina. Every Tuesday in March, Wallace will play his original brand of "NYC Folk-a-delica", complete with reverberating acoustic guitar flourishes and a soft but strong ultra-melodic voice. His delivery is very Donovan meets Syd Barret in his Dylan phase, with enough Lou Reed in there to stop from going off the flower-power deep end, singing kaleidoscopic stories of love, drugs, politics, and yes, even Anna Nicole Smith.

Hey all, this is my page for posting accoustic demo versions of what most likely become full on rock epics with my main band, HeadQuarters. That said, I will be performing the songs as they appear here at solo shows with some variations, depending on a revolving door of duet partners and their instrumentation. Mostly it's a sketchpad for songwriting, complete with all the coloring outside the lines. Hope ya dig it.
