Short Band Introduction

Kurtz was formed in May 2003 in Copenhagen outside "Pussy Galore Café ". Before 1 May 2007 the band was known in Copenhagen and Bologna as Charm Lounge. Those days are over. With 12 songs produced and mixed by Flemming Rasmussen in Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, the band is ready to take on a larger audience under the name and guidance of Kurtz.

The debut Album

Kurtz debut album Bomb My Head will be realeased during February in Northern Europe with the label Sweet Silence Music and contains the tracks recorded with Flemming Rasmussen.

The name Kurtz

After careful consideration and inspiration from an online poll amongst hardcore fans (i.e. people in our network:-)), we decided on the name Kurtz.

Kurtz is inspired by Marlon Brando's character Colonel Walter E. Kurtz in Apocalypse Now from 1979.

Kurtz is pronounced the English way (i.e. Curts).

Denmark and Italy - united in music

Pier and Gorm originally formed the band together in Aalborg, Denmark, when Pier moved to Denmark to study. He and Gorm formed a friendship and found out that they also had musical interest in common. They started writing together, and under the name Sonida they took off to London and Stockholm, where they lived under rather tough conditions with the three other members of Sonida. A record deal was close after a good dialogue with a few record companies. However, the band went their separate ways as patience and luck ran out - Pier went back to Italy and Gorm to Copenhagen.

Gorm started looking for people to play with in Copenhagen. He recruited Kenneth as a drummer after a notice in the local guitarshop. Kenneth had taken a break from music, and he was eager to get started again. Shortly after, Jesper joined as lead singer - mainly because of his extensive collection of Morten Harket posters. Now the band was only a bass player short.
However, after more than a few auditions the band decided to move on without a bass player (for those who are wondering: Gorm recorded the bass for live performances - it worked out well for some time), since no one really fitted the band and the ambitions. As luck would have it, Tim contacted the band with a bass in his hand in the summer of 2005 and was embedded with the rest shortly after. His many talents aside from the bass both online and offline have been good for the band.

The songs and the sound

Some of the songs from the Sonida days are still with the band. The sound is continuously in experiment, and today the songs are heading towards a rock/electronic direction - like the songs you hear on this site.

Kurtz is a rock/pop band inspired by the urban life and romantic feelings. Full and catchy guitarriffs, classic rock beats, a pop melodic vocal and electronic devices together creates a unique sound.

Kurtz have developed their own style in the pop-rock scenario.

Writing in cyberspace - the second rehearsal room

The writing process in the band is quite rare. Most of the songs come to life via Skype, which is the easiest (and cheapest) way to communicate between Copenhagen and Bologna. The songs are further developed in the rehearsal room in Copenhagen before ending up in the live set and/or on an album.

Sometimes Skype is not enough though, and airline companies like Sterling and SAS are said to be pretty happy about the travel frequency in the band.

The songs your hear on this site are taken from the forthcoming debut album
"Bomb My Head". It will be released in Scandinavia in April 2008.
