Writing, boxing, drumming, doodling, purdy things like paintings and photos, music, exercise, biking. (yawn). Criticizing others, laying blame, making fun of you, forming coalitions, taking part in baseless speculation, feigning interest, etc. What is this? A Dewar's ad?
I have a question or two for George W. Bush. Do I get two? I would like to meet my inner adult...
I said music. Did I misunderstand the question?I like Tom Petty, REM, Elvis Costello (am I the only one who likes Monkey to Man? Especially the video, which is how I envisioned my life would be), Police, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Nirvana, Silversun Pickups, White Stripes, Dido, Liz Phair, Sade, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Son House, Natlie Merchant, Albert King, Clapton, BB King, Robert Johnson. Mr. Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. I like Sheryl Crow, Bob Dylan, Sonny Rollins, Dave Matthews, Neil Young, Lyle Lovett and Keth Richards. Issa Bagayoyo, Habib Koite, Ali Farka Toure, David Byrne, Talking Heads, Cranberries, the Beatles, Mingus, Miles, Alanis Morrisette, Carla Bruni and Keren Ann (because I don't know what they are saying), Portishead, Praful, Naomi and Cake. And I'd like to thank my agent. Most songs played by guitarist Mark Desman, especially his slide blues stuff. And local hero Dylan McGuire is a mucho talented singer, writer, guitaro. Also like classical and chill, because they both begin with C. That can mean Bach cello suites and Thievery Corporation. St. Germain is great. Propellerheads are a hoot. What category is that? Oh, man, and I forgot Beck. I also listen to Tibetan gong chanting singing bowl stuff when there is too much noise in the world. Man, do I sound pretentious. Please don't ask to be my friend. I won't respect you for it.
Fight Club, Man of the Century, Beetlejuice, Momento. Lucky Slevin, Hurly Burly, Antonia's Line, Belle Epoque. The Matrix, The Godfather, Fargo, Blood Simple. Most any Bond. Bourne. Being John Malkovich. Raging Bull. Holy Grail. Reservoir Dogs. So many. And short works by Mr. Jay Grandin and Ms. Leah, and by Ms. Happy Slip.
Frasier, HBO Boxing, Two and a Half Men, Studio 60, Planet Earth, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, Will & Grace, House, Letterman, Conan, Spin City, Conan, Jon Stewart. Man do I watch a lot of TV or what? Oh, and I am watching 24 on my iPod but only on planes, which is especially nice when the 500 pound guy next to me falls asleep and wants to spoon. Oy. I refuse to watch television on anything other than TiVo. Like you give a crap.
Anything by Chuck Palaniuk or Philip Roth. Bret Easton Ellis. John Irving. Kurt Vonnegut. More later. The Fight by Norman Mailer. Ghosts of Manilla about Ali/Frasier. A great biography about Jack Dempsey, but I am struggling to remember the title at the moment (Oh, A Flame of Pure Fire). I want to read more Charles Bukowski, because someone I respect said so.
My dad. My mom. And just about anyone who steps into the ring. And anyone who says "I am an artist and this is what I will do." And all those people who decide others are more important than they are. So, I have a few.
