Music:

I am a music junkie. I cannot get enough of it, all kinds. So here is a list of music I have listened to at one time or another and was really into it. There are more bands out there but this is just a solid sampling. I will place an asterick (*) by bands I am currently into. and three (***) by bands I love without question.--------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ -----------------Pop/Rock: Some of these could be catagorized as Alternative but I needed something to put in here ---- Audioslave, Barenaked Ladies, Bo Deans, Cake, Everclear, Foo Fighters*, Guns 'n Roses, Men at Work, Monster Magnet, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Poison, Police, Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skid Row, Staind, Weezer*, U2, Van Halen------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------Classic Rock: I just love those rock bands from the 60's and 70's, before the music biz went to hell. There are so many bands out there with single songs I just love ("Green Eyed Lady" by Sugarloaf and "Radar Love" by Golden Earing for example) I couldn't list them all because of lack of sampling entire albums. SOOOOOOOO........ I listed the bands of which albums I own and enjoy the majority of songs ---- Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Boston, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Doors, Jimi Hendrix***, Journey, Kansas, Led Zepplin***, Steve Miller Band, Pink Floyd***, Queen, Steppenwolf*, George Thorogood, ZZ-Top------------------------------------------------------ -----------------Classic Pop: just recently started getting into some of the older pop out there, mostly soul. You'd think I was getting old! ---- Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder*----------------------------------------------------- -------------------Grunge: I have heard it said that the music you listen to when you are around 18 is the music you will treasure for the rest of your life. This brief genre of music hit me right between the eyes as I was finishing High School and entering College. The Seattle sound, Lollapalooza, when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was still new and not overplayed. These bands and the "Alternative" music scene that followed were some of my favorite experiences in life. Those early 20's, and these bands in all their forms, were the soundtrack to most of those experiences. Yup, I am most definitly a 90's type of guy. ---- Alice in Chains***, Jerry Cantrell, Mad Season***, Mother Love Bone, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Pearl Jam***, Soundgarden*, Temple of the Dog***------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------Alternative: Basically everything else that came out of the 90's rock sound as well as the new mainstream rock sound that has morphed from it ---- A Perfect Circle***, Beck, Blind Melon, Candlebox, Butthole Surfers, The Drugs, Faith No More***, Failure*, Helmet, Jane's Addicition, Morphine*, Phish, Primus***, Queens of the Stone Age*, Rage Against the Machine***, Rollins Band***, Smashing Punpkins, Smoke Off Vinyl(rip)*, Stone Temple Pilots*, Sublime ------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------------- Blues/Jazz/Classical: I am from the Chicagoland area so how could I not enjoy the Blues? Jazz is something I just started listening to recently and I am finding I like it best when it is live so I yet to have any real names that I enjoy there. Big Band music is a blast. As for classical? Well, I have filmed a lot of orchestral performances and now I am hooked. I like to listed to classical when I sleep... vivid dreaming --- John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy***, BB King, Eric Clapton, Howling Wolf, Apocalyptica*, Count Bassie, Duke Ellington,-------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------Rap: You can't live in this country and not enjoy at least one rap group, I can think of four that I listened to and enjoyed ---- Cypress Hill, Eminem, ICP, Onyx--------Reggae: Bob Marley------------------------------------------------------ -----------------------------------------Funk/Heavy Funk: 70's is just good feeling jumping around fun. Being a bass man, I like the groove of the funk. Yet once again I love a lot of the songs("Brick House" by the Commodores and Shining Star by Earth, Wind and Fire) and have yet to hear a lot of the band's material outside of those particular songs. So I will just say ---- Parliment*** for Funk. Heavy Funk is what I think is Hard Rock with that bass groove and bouncy chords ---- Les Claypool***, Good Year Pimps, Hed(pe), Infectious Grooves***, The Mystic Krewe of Clearlight, Phunk Junkeez, Galactic---------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------------------------Industr ial/electronic: Another sound that emerged in the early 90's that I really dug at that time. I do not listen to it often, but every once in a while a band will come along and grab my attention. ---- Drown, Lords of Acid, Ministry, Maintenance of Order, Nine Inch Nails, Sister Solei, Stabbing Westward, Static-X ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------- Miscellaneous: These are a couple of bands I couldn't catagorize. ---- Enigma, Flogging Molly*, The Soundtracks to Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs, Judgement Night, Cowboy Bebop, The Big Lebowski*, O'Brother Where Art Thou? and the Pure Funk* album. ------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------- Metal: by far it is my favorite genre and the longest type of music I have been listening to. I was a very angry teen playing a lot of football and lifting weights. Metal and me just fit. I still love the intensity it can bring out in me. I also enjoy my ever growing appreciation for the style in general as you can sub-catagorize this genre into about 30 different sound-types (Power, Black, Death, Speed, Thrash, Grindcore, etc). Even though I am a little too old to mosh in the pits now, I still love the music like a old, warm blanket of anger. ---- Acid Bath*, Anthrax***, Biohazard, Black Label Society/Zakk Wylde/Pride and Glory*, Black Sabbath, Corrosion of Conformity***, Danzig, DRI, Down***, Fear Factory*, Fight, Entombed, GWAR***, G/Z/R, Hatebreed*, Iced Earth, Iommi, Iron Maiden, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Korn, Machine Head*, Marilyn Manson, Meshuggah, Metal Church, Metallica(pre-1992), Mindrot, Clutch***, Motorhead, Nailbomb***, Meathook Seed, Nothingface, Opeth, Pantera***, Prong, Pungent Stench, Queensryche, Sepultura***, Slayer***, Sevendust, S.O.D., Six Feet Under, Slipknot, Soulfly, Strapping Young Lad, Stuck Mojo, Suicidal Tendencies, Tool***, Type-O Negative*, White Zombie
