I am interested in the concept of the Goddess or Mother Earth and how she is worshopped and shunned in equal measure.The Virgin Mary receives many titles in Catholicism, like Queen of Heaven and Star of the Sea, that are familiar from earlier Near Eastern traditions. Due to this correlation, Protestants often accuse Catholics of viewing Mary as a goddess, but the Catholic Church has always condemned worship of the Virgin Mary and yet, for many catholic women she is the most approachable face of their faith.Many Catholics understand God as subsuming and transcending both masculinity and femininity; God's masculine side is creator and omnipotence; God's feminine side is all-encompassing love and heavenly wisdom. The Son is normally regarded as the personification of this Wisdom, among other qualities.Some of the Black Madonna icons are believed by some to derive from depictions of ancient goddesses, in particular the Egyptian Goddess Isis with her child Horus sitting on her lap.In many languages such as Syriac the word for "spirit" takes the feminine gender. In early Christian literature in these languages, the Holy Spirit is therefore discussed in feminine terms, especially before c.400. Some scholars argue that it was based upon an original goddess figure that was minimized in later traditions.The Mother Goddess, amalgamated and combined with various feminine figures from world cultures of both the past and present, is still worshipped and recognised. The mother goddess is often viewed as Mother Earth. Expressions such as Mother Earth and Mother Nature are in common usage, personifying the Earth's ecology as a fertile and sustaining mother.Wiccans and other Neo-Pagans worship the Mother Goddess who is often described as a Triple Goddess; usually envisioned as the Maiden, Mother, and Crone archetypes. She is associated with the full moon and with Earth.
Lilith?s fecundity may have placed her as Great Mother of settled agricultural tribes, who resisted the invasions of the nomadic herdsmen, represented by Adam.Lilith?s Red Sea is but another version of Kali Ma's Ocean of Blood, which gave birth to all things but needed periodic sacrificial replenishment.Perhaps there was a connection between Lilith and the Etruscan divinity Lenith, who possessed no face and waited at the gate of the underworld along with Eita and Persipnei (Hecate and Persephone) to receive the souls of the dead. The lily or lilu (lotus) was the Great Mother?s flower-yoni, whose title formed Lilith?s name.

Utter film buff. I like watching old black and white movies and having a good sob. I like Woody Allen and Kevin Smith and everyone in between. This week I have watched Scanner Darkly, Now Voyager, Harvey, The Lost Boys and Performance - for the hundredeth time.
Oh I loved Buffy so much. Probably for the same reason I liked the Alien films, to watch women kicking butt. I am a Trekker too, my favourite series was Next Generation. I am a bit of a geek really.
