Zacharias Spyridakis was born in Athens in 1971 and started learning the lyra in 1980. From 1983 he started having lessons with the great lyra player Kostas Moundakis. For years he was the teacher of the Cretan lyra section of the Hellenic Conservatory. He has performed in a great number of concerts in Greece and abroad and has participated in television and radio programmes concerning traditional Cretan music. He has collaborated with many Greek musicians and groups like M.Paschalidis, M.Lidakis, V.Lekas and IASIS and also with great composers like Ross Daly,Manos Moundakis, Mbambis Pramateutakis, Nikos Mamagakis and Giannis Markopoulos. In 1993 he creates “Palaina Seferia†with the other two members of the ensample, playing lyra, boulgari, laouto and also composes and sing for their performances.
