GOLDALINE combines an opera-house basement’s-worth of dusty instruments in a gypsy orchestra tribute to Neutral Milk Hotel -- a band that played a key role in the Elephant 6 collective and inspired current groups like the Decemberists and Of Montreal. Jeff Mangum’s classic songs of nostalgia and longing get an Arcade Fire-style wake-up call thanks to accordion, trumpet, mandolin, clarinet, singing saw, male/female harmonies, and more.
Goldaline’s seven members have played their share of Seattle basements and moustache parties together; previous bands include Token (Seattle), the Ordinary Flies (Eugene, OR), Hot Wyoming (Brooklyn), Makeout City (Portland), Vicar Danowski (Rochester, MN) and Random Andy (Madison, WI). NY transplant Buffie Gilbert has also played solo at CBGB, the Bitter End, the Apocalypse and others.
"Goldaline, with their horn section and multiple singers and sprawling instrumentals, sound a lot like a garage-band version of the Decemberists. But their unpolished vibe is a plus, and their set is pretty exciting."
