About Me

Planet Loop is a planet of two, with many layers and many visitors. Electric bass and drums form the core, and musician friends from around the world frequently join in live for a constantly fresh, multi-sonic cocktail of global groove.
Hailing from Boston, MA by way of Eugene, OR, Planet Loop combines the improvisation of jazz with electronica, loops, and the dance rhythms of world, trance, and funk music.
“Part of the hypnotic nature of our songs comes from the loops we create and the influences we draw from,” notes bassist Michael Schaller. “But, we are a live band with a jazz manifesto, committed to creating all of our sounds in the moment, on the stage.”
The project is the most recent brainchild of longtime collaborators Michael Schaller (bass/vocals) and Carrie Jahde (drums/electronics). The two have collectively performed on stages spanning all corners of the United States, Italy, and Eastern Europe. Having played and released records together for close to a decade in groups including Carmizin, Los Mex Pistols, Eclypse, and the Neil Bjorklund Group, the duo takes spontaneous musical communication to an entirely new level.
“Our music is an organic outcome of our history together as performers,” explains drummer Carrie Jahde. “We both have so many ideas that need to come out; as a duo we find the perfect forum to experiment, collaborate, and just enjoy the ride.”
Many of Planet Loop's songs draw on their variety of experiences as “cultural and geographical nomads,” both having lived in the Midwest, Western, and Eastern United States at some point in their lives. “February in Eugene,” for example, is an homage to the eight years spent in their home of Eugene, Oregon, and quotes one of Eugene’s finest writers, Ken Kesey.
Planet Loop currently performs around the Northeast and recently spread their sounds back to the West Coast in August/September 2007 for their “Berklee to Berkeley” tour, looping from MA all the way to CA and back again, encountering many rare musical breeds along the way.
ENJOY YOUR STAY, Planet Loop’s debut studio album, was released in August 2007. Song samples can be heard online at their official website: www.planetloopmusic.com
