Sona’s is a story of uncompromising commitment to a sound that she heard in her heart. It has been a journey to different places, of encounters with different people and different stories, to culminate in the final destination,her debut solo album SONA .Standing tall at 5 feet 8 1/2 inches, this attractive Indian woman has been singing since the age of 6. She has trained in Hindustani Classical for over 10 years. Her music is not pure classical, not folk, not pop and not of any particular genre.. it is just Sona.Sona has a unique voice and commanding presence on stage . Her music is a combination of ethnic & contemporary sounds & she has an electric live act which combines influences as diverse as ancient Indian folk music, all the way to Gypsy Romani music. A great band, ethnic & contemporary guitars, world percussions & instruments with influences as diverse as Romani gypsy music and R&B to East Indian Baul and North Indian folk rhythms comprise Sona’s music. With this, SONA aspires to be the voice in India that bridges the ancient and the contemporary.Her first video single ‘Bolo Na’ became the most requested single on MTV in the first week of launch itself. Her second video ‘Aja Ve’ hit the airwaves in Jan 07 is got touted as one of the most innovative videos of India in recent times; truly desi funk! Her third video Abhi nahi aana went on air in March 07. All three songs featured in the top 10 charts almost instantaneously. A fourth video ‘Ishq Nachaya’ showcases various dance forms of India & a traditional lyric of the 17th century sufi saint Bulleh Shah with an original composition in Raag Bhairav.Sona has collaborated on a track AFTERGLOW with the Aussie band INXS ,the video of which hit the airwaves in in India in Feb 07. This song has released as a single internationally.
