About Me

A Fat Rant.

I wear lots of hats in life: Wife, Mom, Grandma, Daughter, Sister, In-law, Friend, and even Ex.
My kids ~ Christina, Tony, & Austin ~ have always been my life & their growing up doesn't change that, it only adds new joys, tears, & wonders to share. All three are talented, loving, full of dreams, and the reason God makes the sun rise!
Our newest treasure is my grandson, Zachary, now a toddling one year old. What joy and wonder to rediscover the world through his shining eyes. Being a grandparent really DOES change your heart forever!
I have the most wonderful husband; he is everything to me, & to the kids more dad than step-father in every sense. He has shown us all what true love is. I love you, honey! My dearest friends, and you know who you are, always have my love & unending support. You are part of my family.
I am independent & opinionated with an open heart & mind. You'll always know exactly where you & I stand; there's no need to waste time pretending. I have the biggest heart you'll ever find - and also the biggest mouth. I'm a quirky cross between Sally Field sweetness & strength, & Roseanne Barr reality. Someone once described me as 'formidable'...I like that! I describe myself as a conservative Democrat or a liberal Republican, depending on the issue. I'm a devout Catholic yet part ideology on divorce, remarriage, & birth control; I'm anti-abortion but not pro-life, marriage the second time around makes you guilty of nothing anything except learning how to love again, & if you can't support a child don't make one! It's way past time for parents to take control of their homes & set an example of honorable behavior & honesty that their children can be proud to follow!
KIDS DESPERATELY NEED HEROES WHO...
...play catch, enjoy tea parties, or wrestle, because the heart of a child is there & they set out to capture it.
...laugh till their belly hurts & tears fall from their eyes while secretly creating deep friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
...make mistakes but consider them to be wonderful opportunities to learn.
...place an out-of-tune preschool concert or a ten-year-old's baseball game on life's agenda because they are of infinalte worth to those playing.
...love at all times, because love is a gift freely given.
...listen eye to eye and with both ears even if it means getting down on one knee.
...admit when they are wrong & work to make things right.
...hear about those in need and say, "Let's do something to help right now!" & set off an uncontrollable wildfire of generosity & kindness.
...give the credit to others & empower those they touch to suceed in all that they do.
...model love as action, commitment, & truth even when it hurts because they believe God can work miracles in even the hardest heart.
...love the Lord with their heart, soul, & mind, and know that the rest is just details.

Just as Hallmark can say it better, music can tell the story of our lives. Sometimes we aren't even aware of what's inside until our heart hears the melody; then we become flooded with every possible emotion. We laugh, we cry, we curse, we are inspired, & we embrace another day.

My Interests

Join me?
Fine wine and dark chocolate, now that's living well! I like to draw, write, & read, none of which I get much time to do. Spend lots of time designing & sewing felt Christmas stockings and tree skirts, my art medium of choice. I enjoy puzzles and board games. Crocheting is fun but I don't read patterns well. Lots of collections; my favorites are nutcrackers & blown-glass Santa ornaments. I LOVE to sing, it's a gift I have been blessed with. Lots of time doing the Mom-taxi thing; karate, soccer, baseball, school, etc, but I love to drive. Comedians are the BEST medicine, they keep us sane, saying outloud what the rest of us are thinking!

I'd like to meet:

God, to whisper an inadaquate "thank-you". I have lots of questions, starting with, "Do you know what's going on down here?" Laura Bush, "How could you possibly...?" Mother Teresa, "Why?"... & what a better world we have because you did. Martin Luther, "What compelled you to share?" Mary Magdeline, "Just between us girls, did you...?" Mother Earth, Father Time, and David the Gnome, "Are any of you ready to scream yet?" My deceased family & friends, "Are you happy?"... which brings me back to God. So goes the circle of a gifted life.

"Are you home this morning, God? I really need your help today."

There's nothing like the tunes we cut our teeth on - guess I'll be stuck in the 70's till I'm 70. Oldies ARE the goodies. Can't stand the mush-mouth, head-banging crap, if I wanna hear it I'll turn it on myself! I like new country; no Conway Twangy for me. Opera sucks, but the symphony is a nice change once in awhile. I love something soft on in the background to drift off with at night. And I like what we sing in church...it gives voice to my prayers.

Lots I want to see, but I'm content to wait for the DVD's. Not many films require the impact of the big screen anymore, kinda sad. Comedy, romance, some adventure and the old musicals are the best. Don't like westerns, old or otherwise. Old-fashioned horror's are good, slasher's are not! My top flix: Patch Adams; Van Helsing; The World According to Garp; Seven Brides for Seven Brothers; Father Goose; Yours, Mine, & Ours (the original, of course!); Blue Collar Comedy (all 3); The Wedding Singer; Quills; The Ten Commandments; Same Time,Next Year; Shall We Dance?.

HOUSE beats everything! LAW & ORDER and DANCING WITH THE STARS are favorites too. Judge shows are fun, like well-mannered Springer wanna-be's. The Bachelor, Project Runway, Hell's Kitchen - entertaining but no big deal to miss. Most of my favorites are reruns; Will & Grace, Golden Girls(EVERY woman should be a little bit of each of them!), Roseanne, The Nanny, and Frasier. Discovery, A&E, & the History Channel, great programing, always. Lots preschool programs on around here; can't beat the classics on PBS Kids.

Books:

Don't have but 20 minutes here & there, so it takes awhile to finish anything. I enjoy stories that move along, no complicated plots or characters; reading should be fun, not a chore. The Icemark Chronicles were fantastic! Love historical fiction and romance, especially with a little passion thrown in! Some of my favorite books are children's: Old Turtle, What If the Zebra's Lost Their Stripes? (both with amazing illustrations), Just the Way You Are, & Love You Forever.

My children. Their resilience, patience, candor, honesty, intelligence, dignity and grace cannot be equalled. Strong in their opinions, gentle in their hearts, they define what we who wish to be their heros should be.

Building the future, invisibly

I'm invisible. It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside ...
