-Kofi Annan, UN Secretary-GeneralOUR MISSION:As we have entered into the 21st Century, America’s youth and young adults have become the majority of Americans most likely to contract HIV and the Aids virus.
While there is much more education, resources, support, and knowledge about this viscous disease the number of new infections occurring annually has not decreased, and half of all newly infected people are under 25 years old.
Be Safe Or Die, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and spread of this disease that has already touched too many lives.OUR GOALS:• To educate young Americans about the seriousness of HIV and AIDS and its alarming impact within this age group.
•To make people understand that it is necessary to take personal responsibility in the fight against HIV/AIDS by always practicing safe sex.
• To encourage responsible behavior by distributing free condoms.
• To expand access to information regarding HIV/AIDS including free testing locations and confidential counseling.
• To establish alliances and partnerships with similar organizations to fundraise and sponsor events to deliver our message.
• To gain the support of the media and celebrities to motivate and empower our organization by using their influence and position to reach out to young people across the nation.
• To push schools, community centers, libraries, and other easy accessible locations to develop programs committed to the prevention and spread of HIV/AIDS.STATISTICS:•There are approximately 800,000 to 900,000 people living with HIV in the U.S.
• There are approximately 40,000 new infections occurring each year.
• People of color represent the majority of new HIV infections and new AIDS cases in the U. S.
•1/2 of all new infections are estimated to be among people under 25 years old.
•25% of those infected with HIV do not know they are infected.
•In the U. S. people are having sex at younger ages than any other country.
•25% of 16 to 20 year olds admit to having unprotected sex at least once.
• More than 35% of 16 to 20 year olds have had unprotected sex without knowing their partner’s sexual history.
• Most young people are infected with HIV/AIDS through sex.
