About Me
Started out in the mid 80's I believe (I'm not good with timelines, so you'll have to forgive me...maybe after this is updated we can rewrite this here bio), with the name Ugly Peppers Ugly Peppers. The core was Aris, Leo, Bob and myself, with Jeff joining us a bit later. We then graduated to Garbage Bodies. Nice times...we got to play with Certain Death (hey Danny Sleeze, best parties ever), Group of Individuals (Mike Lazooka you crazy drummer!) in a southside / blue island type scene (oh, Andy Eringis played Bass for us for a very short time, now in "Calling Grace"). We then then had a short stint as "Train Killers"...(ozzy Osbourne radio special....). Took some time off and then we re-emerged as "Steak". We always played at Batteries not Included (raise a toast.....thanks Mark for everything, where ever you are). Got to play with the Shysters (who are now Scribblemonster, props...yo Jim!)....lotta fun (dancing with Jim Morrison.....). We also played at Avalon (raise another toast....man do i miss that place, that was our best gig ever), Club Dreamerz (thanks Fred for all your help as well where ever you may be!!), as well as Edge of the Looking Glass ( flaming ping pong balls not such a good idea....try it some time, you'll see....). We were supposed to play the Cabaret Metro (we all so looked forward to that one....even got a small commercial mentioning us on WXRT about it), but alas that was the year where on Valentine's day (our gig) the weather decided to take a complete CRAP on all of Chicago.....If you lived here you may remember that year......the weather dumped record amounts of snow and what normally would take us like 25 minutes to travel to metro took a whopping 4 hours.....needless to say the gig was canned....oh well, onto studio stuff. We went into the studio 3 times...the 1st time was a place in oak park (Metropolis I believe). We recorded 6 tracks there. Next we went onto the famed Shoes studio n Zion Illinois, Short Order Studios. What a fantastic experience...we got Jeff Murphy of the Shoes to record/mix/produce us. It was right around the time that Material issue was recording their first album at! We were squeezed in in the interims of their smash recording, International Pop Overthrow. With the little money we had and the little time that got us, we popped out 5 tunes.......5 songs that THAT guy completely nailed...the sound....guitars just cutting clean through, and the drums pounding, the whole she-bang (Our Hero has always been our favorite and that is the perfect example from that session....man, I think I have to go back there again, except this time NO Japanese beer....Supporo NO-MORE-O). We then went on to our 3rd and final studio, called Studio 53. It was here we had Mr. Michael Freeman produce us....a lovely chap who did (and still does) a lot of work with the Pezband, and who was a blast to work with as well....very professional and very knowledgeable, he recorded 6 of our songs.....and gave us the well needed discipline we needed when going to a recording studio....(you can here him at the end of Roy...a-smokin and a-drinkin...."press stop" indeed!). Well, that is about it I suppose....next time I get together with the other Steakboys, maybe I'll retool this bio in case I missed something big, or I wasn;t clear. Well, to quote Mr. Freeman, I will now "Press Stop".
