I am a suave swabby.... savvy?

About Me

Where to begin. I'm very much into the medieval / renaissance festival scene. I always dress in garb when I go, but have never actually volunteered my time there.. YET! I have signed on to a one-year contract with AmeriCorps-VISTA. Similar to the PeaceCorps, but instead of working overseas, I will be volunteering my time, skills, experience and services to my community. The pay is not that good, but the benefits more than make up.VISTA stands for Volunteer in Service to America.I graduated from ITT, with an AS in IT:Multimedia. I am currently working on a website for an architect firm in Harrison AR.

I have now moved back to Harrison.

My Interests

My interests and hobbies include, but are not limited to, reading and writing poetry (check my blog pages for a few of my poems), billiards, toying around with writing a book, playing games which include computer first-person shooters and RPGs (both computer and pen/pencil).

PC Games only! I -might- pick up the PS3, but only because Assassin's Creed looks so worth it.

Games I currently play: TES4: Oblivion

I'd like to meet:

There is noone in particular that I am just DYING to meet. So instead, I will give you...People I AdmirePeople who aren't afraid to be themselves. In my world, conformity should be against the law. Molding yourself to placate the masses, denying the expression of yourself in order to not offend anyone else. It should be punished.People who aren't afraid to take chances.People who aren't afraid of spontaneity. Try this! This Friday, go home after work, grab the wife or husband, kiss them hard on the lips, pack a small case of 2 days worth of clothes, and some toiletries.. not a lot, just MAJOR necessities, get in the car, and just drive. Doesn't matter where. You can be in a toally new place in only 3-4 hours. Take a hotel, and the next morning, you have many options available. Alternatively, you can do these in your own hometown: Just walk the town/city looking around, go into shops and browse, take in a small mom/pop restaurant, check out the local art gallery, attend a different denominational church. Do something different.Everyone has a gift. Everyone has a creative side, be it building, modeling, drawing, writing, singing, working with numbers, or what have you.Find your gift, nurture it, and use it.

Music:

My tastes are quite different than many.

Renaissance Festival and Faire music.
The Jolly Rogers - They are a troupe of pirates that travel the many different Renaissance faires and festivals across the land. They also travel abroad. Check out their website and pick up their latest album. Wonderful bunch o grog-swillin bastards. Check out Kurt in my friends...he is one of the blimiest of the Jolly Rogers pirates. Arrr!
Elvendrums - A wonderful troup of elvish drummers and singers.

Celtic Music - Loreena McKennitt, Enya, Daffyd Iwan, Clannad, Irish Rovers, Silly Wizard.

Rhapsody - I refer to this band as EPIC Metal. It is heavy metal, but the songs are all based on the fictional fantasy world created by Luca Truillo.

ROCK/POP - Dave Matthews Band, Meatloaf, Sting, The Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack, Pink Floyd, The Who, Ray Stevens, Weird Al Yankovic, David Bowie, Dr. Demento, Evanescence, John Denver, Kentucky Headhunters, Manhattan Transfer, Norah Jones, Peter Gabriel, The Doors, TOOL, UB40, Harry Chapin, B.B. King, MoNtY PyThOn!!

Movies:

Medieval fantasy and the renaissance
Pirates of the Carribean I, II, and III
Yellowbeard - Campy humor and bawdy puns. What's not to like?
The Princess Bride - I can quote the movie verbatim... almost
Cutthroat Island - Geena Davis in that outfit.... REOWR!!
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead - If you have not seen this film, then close out this browser, turn off the computer and run to the video store now! I highly and heartily recommend this film to anyone. Comedies

Television:

I rarely watch TV. I suppose my favorite channels and shows would be
British Comedy & Drama
Black Books, The Brittas Empire, Jeeves & Wooster, Jonathan Creek, A Bit of Fry & Laurie, Black Adder, Father Ted, Red Dwarf, Q.i., Fawlty Towers, Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Office.
American Comedy & Drama
Family Guy, House M.D., Ed Edd and Eddy, Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and World Poker Tour What is it with American comedy and television? I do not understand. It is not funny. British comedy is far superior and much more intelligent than American comedy. I have not seen any episodes of our version of The Office, with Steve Carrell, but from what I have heard, they hit the nail on the head. I look forward to when I can sit and watch it. Reality Television
Not a fan at all. Favourites that I want brought back
Thank God Your Here - This originated in Austrailia, and was remarkably hilarious. Why did this flop here in the US? It was awesome! Bring it back!
Whose Line is it Anyway - Need I add anything here? Drew Carey, Brian Stiles, Colin Mochrie, Wayne Brady. Come back to us!
Laugh-In - I want to see this brought back. Now is the perfect time to bring in a polital variety skit show. We need this just as much now as we did in the Vietnam era.

Books:

The Pendragon Cycle, by Stephen R Lawhead - Wonderful series on the fall of Atlantis and the survivors journey to Britain and the coming of King Arthur.
Harry Potter - Not much to say that hasn't already been said.
The Stainless Steel Rat series by Harry Harrison.
The M.Y.T.H series and the Phule series, by Robert Asprin.
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Awesome modern-day wizard/private investigator series. Very well written.Comic Books
Knights of the Dinner Table - I have almost every issue of KoDT, but I am missing issues 1-18. If you have any of these, please let me know.

3 Poems - Eyes Toward Heaven, Enter into Dreams, & Ode to a Battle Lost in Time

This first one here was inspired by Lord Byron's She Walks In Beauty.  I challenged myself to use the same rhyme scheme and meter as his.  I had done a reading of She Walks in college...

3 Poems - Places Hidden, The Need & The Kiss

This first poem demonstrates the dichotomy of nature.  Some call it the Yin and Yang.  Good and Bad.  It is the places within they psyche of us all that harbors both the lush veg...
