About Me

Kate is a mom. Now in her forties, she retains a youthful bad attitude and dislike for authority. Kate lives in the silicon valley, a great meritocratic experiment where you don't have to look good OR be pleasant.
Is meritocratic a word?
Should be. Now, where was I?
I'm a former columnist who "does" information. My website,
Anachronistic Mom contains a melange of information and advice.
My blog, Anachronistic Blog , talks about parenting.
I write for the Silicon Valley Mom's blog . (I've worked in the silicon valley for a very long time.)
Right now, I'm also a silicon valley writer and information consultant who works at the intersection of information, technology, and groups of people. As a consultant, I work with Web 2.0 stuff - trying to make it work in the real world. I write about some of my experiences in:But Does It Work?
In the past, I have volunteered doing medical research. I put together information structures for sick people, particularly people with cancer. This part of my website gives directions to people with a sick friend or relative, telling them how to search the internet for information that can help them.

My Interests

writing, humor, politics, education and the educational system, psychology, Jung and archetypes, culture, poetry, how to raise our children, dealing with the wierdness that is suburbia, dealing with the wierdness that is girl-culture (shudder), Waldorf, gardening, cooking, traveling, information, how people work together, good design ... and of course, time management!

I'd like to meet:

I always appreciate good writing. I like humor. I don't think that idealism and sick humor are exclusive at all. I'm a big fan of librarians, and I always love a good murder mysteries.

Music:

yes

Movies:

not really. Maybe Tank Girl and Zero Effect

Television:

Never, until my son was about 4 and I started being brain dead at night. Oh yeah, and we got Tivo.

Books:

Oh yes.
Here are some

Heroes:

Heroes? Oh my. Great parents and grandparents. People who have taught their children to have excellent ethics and not to shun or belittle others. Parents who set their children up with lives whose doors are open, not closed, to experience, wisdom, and beauty.
