Where there is love there is life-Gandhi

About Me

"If you let your fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, your life will be safe, expedient and thin."
I like life.
I like people.
I ADORE my husband.
I like being married.
I like having friends, and being a friend.
I take a different way home from work almost every day.
I take a road I have never seen before at least once a week.
I like my family.
I miss my grandparents.
I believe in God.
I believe in Love.
I believe in Compassion and Hope.
I am a scaredy-cat, but even though I am afraid sometimes, I am almost always willing to try something out.
I am an introvert who has learned some extrovert skills.
I like to get lost on purpose.
I like to listen, and I like to talk.
I like making new friends.
I HATE losing friends.
I am snuggly and affectionate.
"People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering."
I like to curl up and read books under piles of fluffy blankets.
I like going to coffee shops, even though I don’t like coffee much.
I am terrible at responding to e-mails and comments, but I love getting them. I do eventually write back.
I like to cook.
I like people who make me laugh.
I like people who inspire me to be a better person, to be more creative, to live life.
I like learning.
I like bookstores.
I like movies and music that make me cry.
I like fireplaces.
I like taking naps.
I like birthdays and Christmas.
I liked living in Iceland. That was a good experience.
I like to travel.
I like road trips.
I am a girly-girl sometimes, then other times not at all.
I like singing loudly when I am in my car...by myself.
I am unbelievably hard on myself.
I still care too much about what other people think...but I am working on it.
I like days that make me happy to be alive.
I have had a lot of those days lately.
I am enough.

My Interests

hanging out with gabriel.
spending time with friends.
journaling/writing.
horseback-riding.
cooking.
reading.
naps.
having friends all over the planet.
yoga.
walking.
going on road trips and driving just to drive.
discovering the unexpected.
camping...er, I like campfires
travel.
watching movies.
archery.
making homemade cookies for Gabe to take to work with him...so I don't eat them all.
having friends over for dinner.
working through college a little at a time.
catching up with old friends.
chai tea.
spending time with my parents.
watching my friends' kids grow up,
and sleeping in : )

I don't like driving in snowy/icy conditions, bad drivers (there are tons here!), black coffee, and places that smell like wet dog.

I'd like to meet:

Old friends, and some new ones too. New friends though (as in people I have never once met,) please write me a note before I'll add you...In "real life" I know, or have known at some point, every single person on this page, except one.

Music:

Considering my track record with correctly correlating names and faces, songs and artists aren't much better. Ok, not at all better. Much worse actually. And if you want album names?? You've come to the wrong girl for that.
Some artists I know I like...
Shawn Colvin.
Jewel.
The Weepies.
Dar Williams.
Tori Amos
Patty Griffin.
Joni Mitchell.
Joan Baez.
Sarah McLachlan.
Paul Simon.
Alana Davis.
Colin Hay.
Natalie Merchant.
Some Jazz.
Most Classical music.
A teeny tiny bit of country,
a lot of acoustic.
I like silence though too, and am happy to drive for hours with just my thoughts to keep me company.

Movies:

Amalie.
Forrest Gump.
Stranger Than Fiction.
Elizabethtown.
Tortilla Soup.
Calendar Girls.
The Secret of Roan Inish.
Spitfire Grill.
Greenfingers.
French Kiss.
You've Got Mail.
Little Miss Sunshine.
Wild Hearts Cant be Broken
...this list could get long.

Television:

I have gone many months without t.v., and could totally live without it, but I do enjoy watching in moderation. I like:
Planet Earth...if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it.
Dead Like Me (hilarious!).
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (and only the home version)...it makes me cry every single time.
CSI: Las Vegas and NY.
Monk.
House.
Criminal Minds.
Scrubs.
Heroes.
I also like documentaries, and shows that teach me something new about the world I am living in and relating to.
The only show I am slightly embarrassed to watch (but still do) is America's Next Top Model (though the current season hasn't reached Japan yet.)

Books:

Right now I am spending a lot of time with my "Japanese in 10 Minutes a Day" book, as well as the books telling me what is socially acceptable here, so I don't make a total ass of myself.
Some of my favorite books are...
The Alchemist.
The Secret Life of Bees.
Intellectual Foreplay.
Memoirs of a Geisha.
A Girl Named Zippy.
Loving Each Other.
Any book by SARK.
All the Harry Potter books.
Bridge to Terebithia (when I was younger).
Really too many to list, I love books.
As for children's books...The Velveteen Rabbit, Goodnight Moon, and The Dot.

Heroes:

Gabriel for so many different reasons. Oprah...I wish I could be that generous. People who have gone through hell and come out on the other side with their integrity and heart intact.
