William Eugene Beckett Jr. was born February 11, 1985 in Libertyville, Illinois. He is the lead singer of the band The Academy Is..., who are currently signed to Atlantic Records/Fueled by Ramen.
With the help of Mike Carden, his bandmate, William wrote the songs and lyrics recorded on The Academy Is...'s debut album "Almost Here". William plays the tambourine and guitar in addition to singing and drumming. Before The Academy Is..., William performed in a solo-project called Remember Maine. Their debut, "The Last Place You Look", was released by LLR Recordings in 2002.
