About Me

Freddie Z is still a true original. Full of of surprising energy and inspiration, Freddie’s music flows effortlessly from rock to blues to love songs.Freddie released his first CD, The Big Red E to rave reviews and an adoring fan base. ‘Lil’ Raincloud’, off of the big Red E, has been included on a compilation CD of prominant blues artists titled Tattunes, which was released by (and can be purchased from) CD Source. As a member of some of the most noted songwriters organizations in the U.S, Freddie Z has played all over NY, from Albany to the East Village, from open mic’s to opening for Ani Difranco. Freddie was one of nine artists out of over two hundred selected to play the National Academy of Popular Music’s most recent (59th) showcase. Freddie continues to pick up accolades wherever he goes.Freddie Z is constantly working on new material. So be on the lookout for his next, most electrifying group of songs on his forthcoming CD, entitled By Storm!

Freddie Z. is one kinetic character. His performances percolate with unexpected energy, twisting and turning from one thought or musical motif to the next. Similarly, his songs have an uncommon breadth -- of emotion, of subject and of sound -- but each bears his indelible mark. -Michael Eck, Albany Times Union-

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: FreddieZBand.com
Band Members: Currently I am a solo act and all of the instruments you hear on the tracks on this page are in one way or another, me. However, in the interest of playing live once again, I am looking at putting together a new group. Write to me if you, or some one you know is interested.
Influences: I try to stay open to all of what's going on currently in music. Of course that being said I like to make sure my influences are not just the it thing in the moment. I am a huge fan of a well built song played on an instrument that requires skill. The first bands I heard as a boy were The Beatles and The Greatful Dead. In the summer, when my father got jobs on the crews that did the sound work for touring acts that came through our small Upstate New York town I was exposed to some classics. I don't remember all of them, but their was the Charlie Daniels Band, The Turtles, The Moody Blues, and some where their is a photo of a very short seven year old me standing next to a very tall Pete Seeger. So those influences are all in there to one degree or another. Inspirations however are another thing. The first band that I found and really got inspired by was Led Zepplin. They were followed closely by Ani DiFranco and Nirvana. On a strictly acoustic basis Alison Krauss and Union Station, Nick Drake and Rosanne Raneri are all on the ipod. When I want to pick it up and rock out Ok Go or Cracker does the trick. I like the Bruce Hornsby box set collection that came out a few years ago. It has such a huge variation of music from classical to jazz to powerful rock that its kept me listening for quite a while. The truth is though I don't just listen to music constantly. I find that in order to stay inspired I have to expose myself to other mediums as well as music and so I listen to a lot of old time radio podcasts lately and am reading a book about driving Einstien's brain across the country.some more obscure influences for those who want to read on... Bulgarian Womens Choir, Tom Ze, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Keith Jarrett: standards volume 1 "God Bless The Child", Richard Thompson, Dylan Thomas, John Hendricks, Jim Infantino, The Flamingos: "I Only Have Eyes For You"(a masterpeice of recording), Brendan Dwyer, and more i'm sure.
Sounds Like: The songs on this page. Not to be snotty, but that's the best way to say it.
